REVIT_Revision w.r.t to code_Week 5

  • 1)Why are building codes or standards essential for the modeling/ efficiency of drawings in Revit ?

Ans; The building code is a very major aspect to follow while generating/designing any constructional plan. This code is made for the welfare of society in aspects of safety, health and etc., . As it focuses also on the occupancy, folowing the code will obviously become mandatory while designing. Incase of drawing in the revit software if we follow the code while drawing its really helpful for the people on site to follow the design directly without any thorough recheck of the conditions/law. Hence I believe and support the use of code while drawing in revit.

2)From the National Building Code list the groups that will be essential to you when you begin modeling in Autodesk Revit.

Ans;Firstly we need a wide category of people from several sectors while modelling this is because we consider every part of the design to be perfect and also effective.

  • So the following are some category of people
1. Civil Engineer
2. Structural Engineer
3. Architect with interior designing knowlege.
4. Electrical engineer
5. Plumbing Engineer
6. Fire protection Engineer
7. HVAC sector
8. Environment sector specialist
9. Urban Engineer
10. Security system Engineer
11. Town planner
12. Project manager
13. Surveyor.
3) List the five major steps that occur in project cycle . The steps should include from conceptualization of project to maintenance and final stage.
Ans; Project management institute has monitered and brought out the five stages of the projrct cycle they are:
  1. Initiation of the project
  2. Planning
  3. Execution of the project
  4. Monitoring
  5. project close
  • Initiation:
  • Initialising is the project is within the inclusion of clients and the working department.
  • we have to formulate the design with the clients and ask for any specifications.
  • This also includes survey of the sight/land.
  • basically it is about preparing a primary design .
  • And detailed information about the sight should also be gathered.
  • Cost estiamtion is the most important thing to be known by the clients.
  • Planning
  • In this part the basic work schedule of the execution of work is designed.
  • The material requirement is also considered.
  • Engineering works are seggregated carefully to various divisions.
  • labour arrangement and their work schedule is also planned accordingly.
  • And prior to all of these to discuss any concerns reagrding work an ofiice at the site will be created(site office)
  • All the required machinery is also arranged.
  • Execution
  • commencement of work.
  • Intial works like excavation and foudations will be made.
  • Required material for work is brought into the site.
  • Monitoring
  • This is the process where the work is keenly observed in considering the schedules.
  • whether the work the being done on time or not.
  • And also the officials take the site conditions into view and ask if any problems at the site.
  • In case of any disturbances finding alternatives as solutions.
  • Project close.
  • Before wrapping up the project they will check whether everything is fine or not.
  • They will finish the remaining outer damages if any.
  • And handing over the project to the clients.

4) Give examples of different disciplines involved in construction of a project

Ans; While a construction is undergoing the requirement of different sectors of fieldmen/executives is really necessary to enhance and monitor the related to their segment. The various disciplines of people involved are:

  • architect
  • civil engineer
  • structural engineer
  • plumbing engineer
  • electrical engineer
  • environmental specialist
  • HVAC engineer
  • Fire protection engineer.
  • quantity surveyor
  • interior designer
  • Urban designer
  • project manager/supervisor
  • other executive specialists.

5) How are buildings classified ? Place the following buildings under each category
a. Four unit apartments
b. School with capacity of 1000 students
c. A single unit shop.
d. Multi story Shopping complex
e. Steel machine factory

Ans; Regarding to the usage of the buildings they are classified into different categories. The complexity of the buildings will obviously vary according to the category and they differ in so many ways of construction and also in aesthetic view. Some of the various classification of buildings are:

  • Residential buildings
  • commercial/mercatile buildings
  • Industrial buildings
  • Educatioanl buildings
  • storage purpose buildings
  • bussiness buildings
  • Office buildings
  • Buildings for institutions/organisations.

a) Four unit apartments- residential buildings

b) School with capacity of 1000 students- Educational buildings

c) A single unit shop - mercatile buildings

d) Multi story Shopping complex - commercial buildings

e) Steel machine factory - Industrial buildings.

6) Distinguish the roles of Design team and Management team

Ans; While the construction of any project the team definitely consists of both the designing architects and the executive engineers on the site. The project does not contain only single architect or engineer but it has a group of them looking after different sectors of work individually. Actually the size of these groups vary according to the size of project generally for smaller projects we only require a single architect/ engineer.

The design and management teams play a very vital roles in the construction.

  • Design team
  • This team looks after designing of the building according to the requirement of the client.
  • Some architects specialize in some type of buildings and where as the other only work on the subset of the project.
  • It is not really necessary that the whole design should only be created by a single architect , they design the work individually considering their specialization.
  • Architects plan both ways accordingly to the aesthetical value and also the functional value to create a value added design for their clients.
  • The modern day architects are specially focusing on support system as well as sutainability.
  • Management team
  • This team executes the work or design that has been made by the design team.
  • They also work in different segments to complete the work effectively and safely.
  • Mostly the engineering specialists are under this team, so they are placed accordingly to their specialization in the work.
  • They usually ensure maximum safety during the consturction to avoid long term damages.
  • This team conducts a initial survey of the site before the commencement of the work to ensure accuracy of the place.

7) Refer to NBC, Identify the modeling requirements for the project ( from week 4).
a. Height Limitations
b. Area Limitations
c. Room sizing
d. Wall height
e. Thickness based on fire life and safety
f. Passageway requirements

Ans;

Aim: To set the week 4 project according to NBC requiremnets.

tools used: architecture

walls

floors

ceiling

properties

Procedure:

  • Now from the file menu open the revit file
  • and then from the project browser select the ground floor plan
  • see the NBC requirements and make changes if any.
  • now select the floor amd set the height as 12'
  • adjust the wall constraints properly to the levels.
  • now from the 3d view observe the changes.

Results: the prject is set according to the NBC requirements.

8)We have identified requirements for modeling from question 7, Use these numbers from code book and verify the numbers used in modeling the unit from week 2 to week 4. If the numbers are not reasonable, use the numbers obtained from the code book to create a revision of the mode.

This model resembles the actual modeling requirements for Project 1 of course work

Ans: My model satifies all the conditions of the requirements of NBC

as per NBC height of the building must be 1.5 times of the width of the road.

our residential area road width is 10m so 1.5*10 is 15m

my building height= 46' => 46/3.281=14.62 hence satisfied

Area Limitations can be seen from the table 3 of floor area ratio
FAR = Total covered area of all floors/total plot area
= 108sq.m
total floors 2 = 108*2=216sq.m
total plot area= 180sq.m
FAR=216/180=1.2m2 it comes under Type 1, 2, 3
Room size is my standard size as per the NBC
kitchen area should definitely be given in a seperate space and not less than 5sq.m .
