REVIT_Revision w.r.t to code_Week 5
1) Why are building codes or standards essential for the modeling/ efficiency of drawings in Revit ?
Building codes or standards are a set of guidelines which have predetermined values for different kinds of buildings or types of topographies. These are designed for minimum case ensuring safety and satisfying the requirements. These are like law for modeling a building. Building codes are essential for drawings in revit as they are already induced into the software to make our easy as not not waste time refering to the code book. Hence it results in efficiency of drawings and models in revit.
2) From the National Building Code list the groups that will be essential to you when you begin modeling in Autodesk Revit.
The list of groups from national building code that will be essential when we begin modeling in Revit :-
- Architects
- Civil engineer
- Electrical engineer
- Environment specialist
- Fire protection engineer
- HVAC engineer
- Interior designer
- Landscape architects
- Project manager
- Plumbing engineer
- Quantity surveyor
- Structural engineer
- Security system engineer
- Town planner
- Urban engineer
- Other specialists.
3) List the five major steps that occur in project cycle . The steps should include from conceptualization of project to maintenance and final stage.
The 5 major steps that occur in project cycle developed by Project Management Institute(PMI) are :
1.INITIATION : Initiation is the first step which inclludes discussing design client needs, survey, conceptualization, developing design, cost estimation.
2.PLANNING : In this step plannong how to execute works, preperation of schedule, labour arrangement, machinery arrangement, site office, deployement of engineers happens.
3.EXECUTION : Executing the plans starting from excavation, laying foundations etc happens.
4.MONITORING : Monitoring of work, checking if it is going as per schedules, solving small problems on site, Maintaining the project properly
5.PROJECT CLOSE : Final step in which finishing the project then checking and handovering to the client takesplace.
4) Give examples of different disciplines involved in construction of a project
Different disciplines involved in construction of a project are :
- Architects
- Civil engineer
- Electrical engineer
- Environment specialist
- Fire protection engineer
- HVAC engineer
- Interior designer
- Landscape architects
- Project manager
- Plumbing engineer
- Quantity surveyor
- Structural engineer
- Security system engineer
- Town planner
- Urban engineer
- Other specialists.
5) How are buildings classified ? Place the following buildings under each category
a. Four unit apartments
b. School with capacity of 1000 students
c. A single unit shop.
d. Multi story Shopping complex
e. Steel machine factory
Buildings are classified as follows bsed on their usage :
- Assembly building
- Business building
- Educational building
- Hazardous building
- Industrial building
- Institutional building
- Residentail building
- Storage building
- Mercatile building
a. Four unit apartments - Residential building
b. School with capacity of 1000 students - Educational building
c. A single unit shop - Mercatile building
d. Multi story Shopping complex - Commercial building
e. Steel machine factory - Industrial building.
6) Distinguish the roles of Design team and Management team
There will be two teams involved in a project from the starting to ending. They are design team and management team. They have different roles as suggested by their names. Design team have the role of designing the project i.e., modeling the building according to the requirement, following the building codes and provsions. This teams includes different kinds of disciplines like structural, architectural, etc. The management team has the work of managing all the parties like client, design team, etc. They will be the responsible members for making design team understand the project. Management team should even coordinate between different disciplines and making the project complete within the given time with the given resources and budget . They will be resposnsible for handling clients and being the interface between the design team and the clients.
7) Refer to NBC, Identify the modeling requirements for the project ( from week 4).
a. Height Limitations
b. Area Limitations
c. Room sizing
d. Wall height
e. Thickness based on fire life and safety
f. Passageway requirements
a.Height of building must be 1.5 times the width of street .
b. FAR = Total covered area of all floor/ total plot area.
c. Room size can be taken directly from NBC guildlines.
d. Wall height must be taken as the difference between levels standard size is 10 feet
e. Thickness must be minimum of 15 inches as per NBC.
f.Passageways is around a size of lorry around building which will be helpful in construction stage
8) We have identified requirements for modeling from question 7, Use these numbers from code book and verify the numbers used in modeling the unit from week 2 to week 4. If the numbers are not reasonable, use the numbers obtained from the code book to create a revision of the mode.
From NBC, the modeling requirements for project in week 4 based on the topography and the type of area choosed :
a. Height Limitations - height of the building was 30 ft according to NBC but it was designed to 20ft as per requirement.
b. Area Limitations - Area of the plot was 4500sqft. but due to NBC limitations leaving place around the building and all considerations it came upto 4000 sqft.
c. Room sizing - Rooms were taken the size of choice as there is enough area.
d. Wall height - Height of wall was designed as per height of levels i.e., 10 ft.
e. Thickness based on fire life and safety - 15 inches as per NBC
f. Passageway requirements - The space left for passage was 4 feet on the rear sides and 6 feet in the front side.
