Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht

:MODELLING OF AMERICAN PREDATOR YACHT:

Objective:

The objective of this project is to design, model all the parts and assembly of American predator yacht with the help of solidworks.

Introduction:

In this project the model of American predator yacht is created with solid modelling and surface modelling. Each and Every part of the yacht is designed and assembled with proper mates and constraints and followed by the photo realistic rendering with the help of photo view 360.

The Modelling involves following steps: -

  • Designing and modelling of individual parts.
  • Assembling of parts.
  • Rendering of model.

Design Methodology:

Description:

  • Blueprint setup.

Blueprint gives us the general idea about structure of model.

It includes top, Bottom, front, side, and rear plan layout and construction details.

  • Parts of American Predator Yacht.

Hull:

Hull is base or the floating part of the yacht, due to symmetric structure one half of model is created and another half is mirrored. because of its complex curvature it will be good to create it with surface modelling first and then converted into solid modelling.

Rendering Images:

Commands used: projected curve, surface loft, surface trim, surface knit, shell, boss extrude, revolve, chamfer, fillet, fill surface, sweep, 3D sketch, mirror, linear pattern, split, split line and basic sketching tools.

Super structure:

Super structure is placed in top of the Hull. It has symmetric structure and it is enough to create one half of the structure and another half can be mirrored. It is created in same way as hull. Firstly, created with surface modelling and converted into solid modelling.

Desk surface of hull imported as a reference for super structure and further, proceeded with the desired modelling.

Rendering Images:

Command used: Surface extrude, surface sweep, surface knit, ruled surface, surface trim, boundary surface, projected curve, surface loft, surface fill, 3D sketch, surface extend, boss extrude, cut extrude, delete face, surface offset, dome, split line, reference plane, revolve, shell, mirror, fillet and chamfer.

Garage door:

This part is modelled from the part which was removed and saved during hull modelling by using split command.

It is a symmetric model and used as a garage door.

Rendering Images:

Command used: Cut extrude, extrude, shell, chamfer, fillet and mirror.

Radar: Radar is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the range, angle, or velocity of objects. It is assembled with the radar mast which is placed on top of the yacht. It has a symmetric structure and created using solid modelling. The text is engraved in back side of radar with the help of text and cut extrude command.

Rendering Images:

Command used: Extrude, fillet, pattern, split line and mirror.

Radar mast:

It is used to receive and send signals and to control the position of radar. To model the radar mast, the desk surface of super structure is imported and used as base for further modelling.

Rendering Images:

Command used: Extrude, revolve, sweep, projected curve, dome, shell, chamfer, fillet and mirror.

Propeller:

A propeller is a rotating hub which converts rotational power of engine into linear thrust and pushes the yacht in desired direction. It is a fan like structure with helical blade.

Rendering Images:

Command used: Revolve, loft, reference geometry, cut extrude, circular pattern and fillet.

Seat:

Seats are designed according to the need and comfort in yacht. In this yacht there are three seats named according to their positions.

  • Front seat
  • Middle seat
  • Rear seat

All the seats are placed on top of the hull and the desk surface of hull is imported for reference of every seat.

Front seat:

Front seat is placed in the front of yacht for comfort. It is symmetrical model, so, half of the model is created and another half is mirrored.

Rendering Images:

Command used: Surface sweep, surface extrude, surface trim, surface loft, surface knit, chamfer, revolve, dome, fillet and mirror.

Middle seat: It is placed in middle of the yacht and consists of comfortable sofa and a table.

Rendering Images:

Command used: Extrude, reference geometry, chamfer, fillet and mirror.

Rear seat: It is placed in rear side of the yacht. It has symmetrical structure. One half of seat is created and another half is mirrored.

Rendering Images:

Command used: Surface sweep, surface offset, surface trim, ruled surface, surface knit, reference plane, surface loft, extrude, chamfer. Revolve, fillet and mirror.

  • Assembly of Yacht:

After modelling of individual part assembly is performed with desired mates and constraints. The common constraints used are coincident, concentricity etc.

First, the hull is imported in solidworks assembly and followed by super structure, front seat, middle seat, radar mast. These parts assembled automatically to desired positions because they are modelled based on desk surface.

After radar mast the rear seat is assembled with coincident and offset mates. Then afterwards propeller and radar are assembled to their respective places with concentricity and coincident mates and let them rotate in one axis according to their function.
