Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht

DESIGN AND ASSEMBLE OF A SUNSEEKER YACHT

Objective:

The main aim is to design and assembly of a sunseeker predator yacht by using the methodology of 2D sketch, 3D modeling and photo rendering by using solid works.

Introduction:

Yacht is a sailing boat for cruising, pleasure and racing. There is no definite purpose for construction of this power vessel, based on the requirement of customers facilities structural cabins can be modified and also adding pools, helipads and luxuries facilities can be arranged.

In earlier years boats can be constructed by wood, this process is easy and faster method by using conventional planks over rib continues.

yachts made with the WEST system plies of wood strips, soaked in epoxy and applied over the boat frame it provides a durable, lightweight and robust hull.

At present metals can be used for construction of boats, Metal hulls from steel or aluminum offer the opportunity for welding components to a completely watertight hull. Both metals are vulnerable to damage due to electrolysis. Steel is easy to repair in boatyards around the world, whereas aluminum is a much lighter material.

Design methodology:

Adding planes:

To add planes and given offset to required positioning for blueprint setup.

Blueprints setup:

To provide blueprints setup for reference the model and make 2D drawings for part modeling.

2D sketch:

To create geometry using 2D sketch by selecting the plane for drawing and given offset distance to the plane and using tools interface for drawings to given dimension for defining the sketch for modeling.

Part modeling:

It Demonstrates the design methods, tools, and features commonly used to make parts.

Parts to model:

  • Propeller
  • Radar
  • Hull
  • Garage door
  • Front seat
  • Middle seat
  • Rear seat
  • Superstructure
  • Radar mast

Propeller:

Propeller is a device with a rotating hub and radiating blades that are set at a pitch to form a helical spiral, when rotated it exerts linear thrust upon a working fluid, such as water or air.

Propellers are used to pump fluid through a pipe or duct, or to create thrust to propel a boat through water or an aircraft through air. The blades are specially shaped so that their rotational motion through the fluid causes a pressure difference between the two surfaces of the blade

by Bernoulli's principle which exerts force on the fluid. Most marine propellers are screw propellers with helical blades rotating on a propeller shaft with an approximately horizontal axis.

Tools used to model propeller:

  • Revolve
  • Lofted base
  • Cut extrude
  • Fillet
  • Circular pattern

Radar:

Radar is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the distance (ranging), angle, and radial velocity.

It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain.

A radar system consists of a transmitter producing electromagnetic waves in the radio or microwaves.

Tools used to model radar:

  • Boss extrudes
  • Fillet
  • Cut extrude
  • Sketch pattern
  • Mirror
  • Split line

                                                                              Radar

Hull:

A hull is bottom portion of ship to stream through water, it can be constructed based on the requirement and performance.

They are usually displacement hulls. V or arc-bottom chine boats have a V shape between 6 and 23 degrees. This is called the deadrise angle. The flatter shape of a 6-degree hull will plane with less wind or a lower-horsepower engine but will pound more in waves. The deep V form (between 18 and 23 degrees) is only suited to high-powered planning boats.

They require more powerful engines to lift the boat onto the plane but give a faster, smoother ride in waves. Displacement chined hulls have more wetted surface area, hence more drag, than an equivalent round-hull form, for any given displacement.

The watertight body of a boat, or flying boat. The hull may open at the top (such as a dinghy), or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck. A top the deck may be a deckhouse and other superstructures, such as a funnel, derrick, or mast. The line where the hull meets the water surface is called the waterline.
