Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht
REPORT : MODELLING AND ASSEMBLY OF A YACHT
Title : Modelling and Assembly of a Yacht
Objectives :
The main objectives of this project are
- To create an assembly of a yacht.
- To design the parts of the yacht.
- To know the application of the decals and photoview 360.
Introduction :
Solidworks is 'the software to master' which helps us to design and make simulation of the mechanical products which convert the 2D sketch in a Three Dimensional model which helps to understand the visual realization of the part to be converted in real time and it has many add in features like photo view 360 which helps in rendering of the final model to make it picture realistic.
This report gives the detailed modelling and assembly of a yacht.
Design methodology :

Description along with the images of Part files :
Propeller :

A propeller is a device with a rotating hub and radiating blades that are set at a pitch to form a helical spiral, that, when rotated, exerts linear thrust upon a working fluid, such as water or air. Propellers are used to pump fluid through a pipe or duct, or to create thrust to propel a boat through water or an aircraft through air. The blades are specially shaped so that their rotational motion through the fluid causes a pressure difference between the two surfaces of the blade by Bernoulli's principle which exerts force on the fluid. Most marine propellers are screw propellers with helical blades rotating on a propeller shaft with an approximately horizontal axis.
Description
For designing of the propeller following steps are used
- Creating a 2D sketch.
- Revolve it around the axis.
- Draw the propeller blades.
- Extrude the blades with the Loft.
- Apply fillet to the blade.
- Use circular pattern and increase 6 instances of the blade.
- Color the propeller.
Radar :

Radar is a vital navigation component for safety at sea and near the shore. Captains need to be able to manoeuvre their ships within feet in the worst of conditions and to be able to navigate "blind", when there is no visibility at night or due to bad weather. In addition to vessel-based marine radars, in port or in harbour, shore-based vessel traffic service radar systems are used by harbourmasters and coast guard to monitor and regulate ship movements in busy waters.
Description
- Draw the sketch on the right plane.
- Extrude the sketch.
- Apply fillet to all the edges.
- After applying the sketch driven pattern to the polygon apply mirror to the face which will complete the radar.
- Make a hole at the centre of the bottom surface.
- Add a text on the radar and colour it.
HULL :

A hull is the watertight body of a ship, boat, or flying boat. The hull may open at the top (such as a dinghy), or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck. Atop the deck may be a deckhouse and other superstructures, such as a funnel, derrick, or mast. The line where the hull meets the water surface is called the waterline.
Description :
- Open the blueprint of the yacht.
- With the help of projected curves make a surface loft.
- Create the bottom surface loft with the help of line and spline.
- Trim the excess surface and then knit the surfaces by applying merge and gap control of 0.1mm.
- Create a solid body of the hull.
- Apply fillet and chamfer to the hull.
- Create windows at the side of the hull and make 7 instances of the linear pattern.
- Make steps on the boat surface and extrude them.
- Create splines at the bottom plane then extrude and chamfer them.
- Sketch the Railing on the mid plane then project the curve.
- Make a new plane and sweep the railing.
- Make the propeller holding.
- Mirror the hull and select knit and merge.
- Draw the surface on the hull which will be used later while modelling the superstructure.
- Color the hull.
Super Structure :

The superstructure consists of the parts of the ship or a boat, including sailboats, fishing boats, passenger ships, and submarines, that project above the main deck. The size of a watercraft's superstructure can have many implications in the performance of ships and boats, since these structures can alter their structural rigidity, their displacements, and/or stability. These can be detrimental to any vessel's performance if they are taken into consideration incorrectly.
Description :
- Add the blueprint of yacht.
- Add the hull part.
- Keep surface on which the superstructure will be designed.
- Make the projected curves with the sketches and then make surface loft with it.
- Trim all the excess surfaces and then knit and merge all the surfaces.
- Make the solid body of the superstructure.
- Mirror the superstructure to complete it.
- Color the superstructure.
Garage Door :

Description:
- Open the Garage Door file saved while modelling the hull.
- Reduce the size of the garage door.
- Fillet the edges.
- Mirror one side of the door to make it complete.
- Add a text on the door.
- Color the door.
FRONT SEAT :

Description:
- Create the sketch.
- Surface extrude the sketches.
- Trim the excess surfaces.
- Knit and merge the surfaces.
- Color the Front seat.
Middle seat :

Description:
- Create the sketch.
- Surface extrude the sketches.
- Trim the excess surfaces.
- Knit and merge the surfaces.
- Colour the middle seat.
Rear seat :

Description :
- Create the sketch.
- Surface extrude the sketches.
- Trim the excess surfaces.
- Knit and merge the surfaces.
- Color the rear seat.
Radar mast :

Radar mast is an electronic navigation instruments that use a rotating antenna to sweep a narrow beam of microwaves around the water surface surrounding the ship to the horizon, detecting targets by microwaves reflected from them, generating a picture of the ship's surroundings on a display screen.
Description:
- Create a solid works part file.
- Add superstructure.
- Enable the surface created, which will be the used to make the radar mast.
- Draw the sketches and extrude them.
- Merge them all.
- Mirror the part.
- Color the Radar mast.
Assembly :

Description :
- Create an assembly file.
- Insert all the components in the workspace.
- Mate all the components properly.
- The final assembly is ready.
Conclusion :
- Solidworks assists BluEntCAD professionals to generate the most intelligent solutions when it comes to designs.
- It is the handiest software to design the product.
- Solidworks help understand the design process easily because of its graphics which is a helpful tool.
