Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit

1.Identify each of the major elements in the above automotive wiring diagram

Ans:

  • Battery, generator, breaker, ammeter, foot selector switch, ignition coil,current and voltage regulator etc.

2.Explain the purpose and working of any three elements briefly.

Ans:

1.Battery:

  • It is collection of cells and stores energy in form of chemical energy.It converts chemical energy into electrical energy.There are two type,
  • Primary (or) non rechargble
  • secondary (or) rechargble

2.Fuse:

  • Fuse is an electical safety device that operates to provide over current protection in electrical circuit.Its essential component is a metel wire or strip that melts when toomuch current flow throught it,thereby stopping or interrupting the current.Fuse is always connected in series with the elecrical circuit.

3.Breaker:

  • A circuit breaker is an electical safety device designed to protect an electrical circuit from demage caused by an over current or short circuit. Its base function is to interrupt current flow to protect equipment and to prevent the risk of fire.

3.If the total load is 10A from battery, what should be the fuse rating?

Ans: Given data-

Total load(I) = 10 A

Voltage (V)= 12 V

we know P= V*I =120 kw

Fuse rating = (P*1.5)/V = (120*1.5)/12 = 15 A

The fuse rating should be 15 Amps

4.If 500W is the load, what is the voltage and capacity of battery you recommend?

Ans: Given data

I = 10A

P = 500W

we know

V = P/I = 500/10 = 50V

C = I*T = 10*1 = 10Ah

Voltage and Capacity for this battery should be 50V and 10Ah.

5.Identify any two elements which are connected parallel to each other. Why they are connected in parallel?

Ans: Every light is connected in a parallel combination. The individual currents add up to the total current.

Generator is connected with current voltage and regulater in parallel combination.

6.Identify any two elements which are connected in series. Why they are connected in series?

Ans: Starter is connected in series line because continous current flow through it.

Ammeter is connected in series, it is a device which measures the amount of current flowing in a circuit.
