Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit

Project on Fundamentals of Electrical Systems and Electrical Architecture

1.Identify each of the major elements in the above automotive wiring diagram.

ANS:

a) Ammeter

b) Fuse

c) Battery

d) Foot selector switch

e) Genarator

f) Ignition coil

g) Breaker

i) Distributor

j) Current and voltage regulator

k) Starter

2.Explain the purpose and working of any three elements briefly.

ANS:

1) Battery:

Working: It is a Collection of cells. The chemical reaction occuring in the cell of battery result in flow of electricity in a circuit. A battery Stores an Electric Energy. It supply DC Voltage. Main function of Battery is to accept, Store and release electricity on demand.

Purpose: Some batteries are rechargeable batteries and are used in each and every sector. The batteries of electric vehicles are usually rechargeable. Generally, lithium-ion batteries are used in electric vehicles.It is one of the key components in our day-to-day life. It is uses in several sectors like Automotive, House, medical, logistics, Construction, Military, Firefighting and Emergency etc..

2) Fuse:

Working: it is a Electrical safety device. Fuse breaks the circuit if it found too much current flow through the circuit.it protects the wiring and the components when something goes wrong.

Purpose: The fuse contains a piece of wire that melts easily. If the current going through the fuse is too great the wire heats up until it melts and breaks the circuit. It Prevents device failure due to faulty circuit operation, it prevents short circuits and overload, also prevent damaged to appliance.

3) Breaker:

Working: A Circuit Breaker is an electrical safety device designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by an overcurrent or short circuit.When there is a faulty current flowing through any part of the system, the trip coil of the breaker gets energized thereby moving away from each other, thus opening the circuit. Types of breaker present in the market are MCCB, MCB, ELCB, RCCB and Surge Arrestors.

Purpose: Its main function is to interrupt current flow to protect Operator and equipment and to prevent the risk of any Hazzard like Fire.

3) if the total load is 10A from battery, what should be the fuse rating?

we can use 13A fuse for above given question.

we must maintain the fuse rating 25% greater than the total load. so that the fuse rating is to be 13A.

4) Given, P= 500W and I = 10A

So from the power formula,

Voltage= P/I = 500/10 = 50V

Capacity= I*T = 10*1 = 10Ah

5) 5.Identify any two elements which are connected parallel to each other. Why they are connected in parallel?

ANS: As per the above image Generator and current and voltage regulator connected in parallel with each other. if two are more components are connected in parallel they have the same differential of potential voltage across their ends.

6.Identify any two elements which are connected in series. Why they are connected in series?

ANS: as per the above image battery and starter are in series to each other because same current flows throw them.
