Project 2 Thermal modeling of battery pack
Thermal management system:
The system which maintain battery pack temperature in between safe operating area (SOA). It maintain the battery pack safety and efficiency of the system. The TMS is used to maintain,
- Life cycle of the battery pack
- Safety
- Performance
Simulink block:
The 10 cells are connected in series. The cell 1 to 4 are in subsystem 1. The cell 5 are in subsystem 2. The cell 6 to 10 are in subsystem 3. The subsystems are connected in series. The temperature sensor are used, there is no heat flow through the sensor. The port T denotes the temperature difference across the sensor. The measurement is positive when temperature at port A is grater than the temperature in port B. The thermal mass is the rate of temperature increase is proportional to the heat flow rate into the material and inversely proportional to the mass and specific heat of material. The solver configuration and electrical reference are connected.

The subsystem 1 is shown below. The cells 1 to 4 are connected in series. The table based battery is used with SOC and optional temperature. All temperature from the temperature sensor block are added up and displayed in the display block. The state of charge (SOC) is also displayed in the display block and it is check with the scope block.

The subsystem 2 block simulink is shown below. The SOC and temperature value is displayed in the display block. The gain is given as 100. The temperature is given as 298 degree celcius.

The results shows the SOC of cell 1 to 4, SOC of cell 5, SOC of cell 6 to 10. The SOC output is reduces gradually. The stop time is given as 500 seconds. The SOC of cell 1 to 4 reduces from 40% to 10%. The cell 5 SOC reduces from 100% to 0%. The cell 6 to 10 SOC reduces from 50% to 10%

This results shows the temperature of cell 1 to 4, cell 5 and cell 6 to 10. we can compare the result value with the display block. The temperature increases from 1192 to 1193.4 degree Celsius of cell 1 to 4. The temperature rises from 298 to 298 degree celsius for cell 5. The cell 6 to 10 temperature rises from 1490.8 to 1491.6. The same result will be displayed in the display block.
