Explanation:

  • p1 = Turbine inlet pressure (bar).
  • T1 = Turbine inlet temperature (°C).
  • p2 = Turbine outlet pressure (bar).
  • The script uses XSteam.m (a MATLAB function for steam properties) to get Enthalpy (h), Entropy (s), Temperature (T) at key states and The dryness fraction (x) at state 2.
  • 'h_pT' → Gets enthalpy from pressure and temperature.
  • 's_pT' → Gets entropy from pressure and temperature.
  • 'hL_p' and 'hV_p' → Get liquid and vapor enthalpy at a given pressure.
  • 'Tsat_p' → Gets saturation temperature at a pressure.
  • The work produced by the turbine is computed as Wt=h1−h2.
  • The energy required to pump the liquid is Wp=v3(p4−p3)×100.
  • The total useful work is Wnet=Wt−Wp.
  • The efficiency of the cycle is calculated using η=(Wnet/Qin)×100.
  • where Qin=h1−h4.
  • Work Ratio & Back Work Ratio Measures how much turbine work contributes to overall output.
  • The script plots a Temperature vs. Entropy (T-S) diagram, showing the thermodynamic cycle visually. Red lines represent the saturation curve.
  • Markings text(s1, T1, '1') label the state points.
  • The Enthalpy vs. Entropy (H-S) diagram is also plotted to analyze work done in different stages.
  • Color-coded process lines help distinguish different cycle stages.
  • Result:

    Conclusion:

    • Rankine Cycle Simulator is created using MATLAB.
    • The Net work output, Back work ratio is calculated.
