Project - 2 - Meshing on the suspension Assembly
Aim :
To mesh the components in 2D and 3D as per the thickness and make proper connections for the areas to be connected in the given model.
Objective :
To mesh the components by using shell mesh and volume mesh as per the thickness of the component and to make connections.

Theory :
The given model is a rear wheel assembly system in a car. It plays a major role in the car for transportation from one place to another with assistance of the front two wheels. Nowadays we have different options in drive train like rear wheel drive, front wheel drive, all wheel drive and four wheel drive. The engine power and torque transferred to differential to move the wheels. In rear wheel assembly we have different components they are, wheel hub assembly is the key component of the steering system. It acts to keep the wheel attached to the car and allows to turn wheel freely. The wheel hub assembly is found at the center of each wheel, and purpose of wheel hub is to house the wheel bearings.
The main parts in wheel assembly are wheel rims, wheel bearing, tyre, wheel hub, wheel fasteners, barrel, bolt circle, outer lip, flanges, centre bore, valve system.
Procedure :
Import the model to the graphical workspace.
Check for geometrical errors and fix them.
In this model we have different components like few uniform thickness components and few non uniform thickness components.

The suspension spring is converted into curve and represrnted it as rod for a radius of 5mm.

The components with uniform thickness are taken auto mid surface and applied shell mesh of target 4 units.

The components with non-uniform thickness will be meshed in volume mesh (Tetra mesh, Ortho tetra).

After completion of meshing the components. It is important to check the quality parameters and fix the off elements, in volume mesh it is important to check Tet collapse.

In connections part we have many options to do connections and here we have to select the select the required connection according to the place of connection.

I have applied seam weld to connect the parts which is meshed using shell elements and volume meshed components are connected using bolt connection (RB2- cluster – two node RB2).

The connections are applied in an approximation only to arrest the movement of the components.
Conclusion :
We have applied two types of meshing here in one model due to the variation in thickness property and applied connections to arrest the movement of different components in given model. The connections will be play important role in analysis part.
Result :
The meshing of model with different thickness property is done with proper connections to all the components in the model successfully by using ANSA software.
