Project 2_Design & Analysis of a Hostel building at Guwahati, Assam
Aim: To design and analysis of G+3 hostel building in Etabs and Foundation in SAFE.
Given:
- The walls will be made of AAC blocks.
- The buildings rests on type 3 soil. Piles of length 10 meters and 500 mm diameter with a load-carrying capacity of 280 KN is to be used.
- The ground floor level will be at a height of 2 meters above the existing site level to avoid floodwater enter the building.
- M25 grade of concrete with Fe500 for longitudinal reinforcement and Fe 415 for shear reinforcement is to be used.
Procedure:
Open Etabs and open a new model
Enter the story height and grids according to the architectural plan

After this we will get a plan

Define materials

For shear reinforcent

Define secion properties
Beam

Column

Slab

Start geometric modelling of beams, columns and slabs
The result will be this

Applications of load:
Define load pattern

Define dead load

Define live load

Define floor finishes

Define mass source

Define diaphragms

Define load combinations

Define response spectrum

Add response spectrum in load cases

Check the model

View base reactions

Modal participating mass ratio

Story drift in RSx direction

Story drift in RSy direction

After everthing's alright, run concrete design

Elevation A view of column for longitudinal Reinforcement

Shear reinforcement

Designing beam along grid 1

The reinforcement detailing for beam along grid 1

Designing the reinforcement for column in grid A

Shear value

Reinforcement detailing for column

Export this model to SAFE software to design and analys the foundation

Open SAFE software and import the saved Etabs file

After defining material property,section property

View live load above

Loads on the foundation

Draw piles and beams accordingly

Add soil subgrade property to the foundation

Add point spring to tge piles

The design value

Add slab design strips

Result:
A G+3 hostel building and its foundation has been designed and analysed using Etabs and SAFE softwares.
