Project 2 - Crush analysis of aluminium Tube
Objective:
The aim of this challenge is to simulate a crushing of an aluminium tubeby a rigid wall and to find the total deformation and stress experienced by the tube. The simulation is to be run for 4 different values of velocity of the rigid wall.
Case setup and execution:
First the Ansys workbench was opened and the Explicit dynamics module was opened.
Then the design modeler was opened and the parts were designed by creating the sketch first and then using the extrude option.
Then the Mechanical module was opened.
The tube was assigned the aluminium alloy NL material and the rigid wall was assigned structural steel. The behaviour of the wall was made rigid.
The mesh was generated by giving the body sizing of 10 mm to the rigid wall and 5 mm to the tube.

Then the Analysis settings were decided. The number of steps was 1. Rest of the settings were unchanged.
The rigid wall was given the velocity of 30 m/s in positive z-direction. The other end of the tube was given fixed support.

For the output, the total deformation of the tube and the equivalent von mises stress were requested. The model was solved.
The module was duplicated 3 times more and the velocity of the wall was changed to 40 m/s, 50 m/s and 60 m/s respectively.
Results:

Conclusion:
Thus the simulation ran normally. The simulation file is attached with the report.
