Project 2

Project: Tailgate Wiring Harness Design

Step 1: Defining the electrical components & adding electrical properties to them are as follows

1. C-1563689

2. C-776438

3. C-1924487 (connector mounting clip)

4. Furr Tree Clip (bundle mounting feature)

5. Protective Covering (required as per bundle diameter)

Step 2: Catalog creation & adding the electrical components under respective family.

Step 3:

Creating a context assembly then adding geometrical bundle assembly to it and placing all the electrically defined components at respective locations where they needed to be on the tailgate context assembly.

Note: There should be no relation between in the context assembly and geometrical bundle assembly to avoid future consequences.

Step 4:

Preparing a geometrical bundle assembly in electrical harness assembly workbench by using different commands and also adding protective covering where needed with respect to bundle diameter

Step 5: Checking bundle segment connectivity, it should be fully connected.

Final Context assembly looks like

Step 6: Creation of Flattening assembly

Step 7: Creation of tailgate wiring harness drawing

Conclusion:

In this project, the design of an automotive car tailgate wiring harness was successfully complected using Catia software. The process includes 3D wiring harness design, flattening the harness for manufacturing, and creating the 2D drawing for the flattening assembly. This project helped in understanding the complete workflow of wiring harness design in the automotive industry and highlighted the importance of accuracy and efficiency in the engineering design using advanced cad tools.
