Challenge

Project 2 - 2D meshing on the instrumental Panel

Objective

  • Main objective in this challenge is to take the midsurface and mesh the same after checking and eleminating all geometric errors. Meshing are to be done using different meshing techniques as instructed with proper thickness assignment.

Procedures

  • CAD model was exported to ANSA and the geometric errors were checked and rectified. Used @MENUBAR>TOOLS>CHECKS>GEOMETRY and @TOPO>HOTPOINTS/FACES/CONS
  • Midplane extraction was done using @FACES>MIDSURFACE>CASTING/EXTRUSION, 'Minimum Thickness' and 'Target Element Length' were feded. All the given criteria were added @MENUBAR>QUALITY CRITERIA/MESH PARAMETERS. Midplane extraction was done along with the 2D meshing. Switched to 'Classic Mesh' and used 'Mesh Generation', 'Elements' and 'Shell Mesh' for midsurface meshing. Tried the trias% reduction as possible.
  • Align Manager was used to extract the distorted midsurface @FACES>ALIGN. After rectification, final CAD model was saved.

Screenshots

  • CAD model exported @Sample 1 and after error rectification @Sample 2.
  • Midplane extraction using CASTING/EXTRUSION @Sample 3.
  • Finalpart after error rectification @Sample 4.

Conlusion

  • CASTING/EXTRUSION option was used to extract Midplane and for Meshing,T for complex models the distortion occoured at feature areas are difficult to solve.
  • This option is better recommended for solving small model parts, else better to go with manual techniques.
  • Here i used CASTING/EXTRUSION option for solving.
  • Mesh flow, Opposite Trias and Off Elements are present.....tried to reduce as max as possible.
  • Usage of Align Manager option was done but failed at some feature areas.
