Project 2
Project 2: Construction Planning using Primavera P6
Aim of the project: Create a Project Schedule in P6 for the Skill Lync Education Centre Road Construction.
Tools used: Primavera P6 software, raw project details, and a variety of P6 features such as EPS, Projects, Tools menu, and View.
Oracle Primavera P6 is a project management solution that helps you plan, manage, and execute your projects. It can manage both large and small projects in a wide range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, energy, and information technology.
For establishing the timetable of a project under Skill Lync EPS.
Procedure: Launch P6, and Go to the Enterprise menu and select Projects. Search for the EPS under which the project will be generated, then right-click on it and select ADD. Create a new project with the necessary name and ID under the appropriate EPS. Provide a scheduled start and end date. Set the rate type to Standard Rate and click Finish. Go to the defaults tab at the bottom of the page and set the project Calendar to 6*24.
Now we'll add resources to our project. Choose Enterprise | Resources from the main drop-down menu at the top of the screen. Click the + Add button in the upper right corner of the screen, or choose Edit | + Add. Fill in the Resource ID and Name. Add the first resource by entering an ID and a name for your resource group, and then continue to provide details as requested, such as units, calendars, roles, and so on.
Similarly, add all essential resources and click Finish.
Now open the project and right-click on the Activities dialog box. Select Add and start adding other activities as needed. Assign the appropriate activity id with a 10 increment. Include all activities, including After you've added all of the activities, enter their durations in the Duration column.
Assign resources to each project activity using the Resources tab at the bottom of the Activity Details window.
Right-click on the Activity window and pick Columns. Add the Predecessors column and click Apply. Finally, click OK. Assign predecessors to all activities using columns or directly through the Gantt chart with a mouse. Assign appropriate linkages between activities and lags using the Predecessors tab at the bottom of the screen.
Now, we can modify the timescale by right-clicking on the Gantt chart area and selecting Timescales. Go to the third tier, make the appropriate modifications, and click OK.
Our project has now been created, complete with an activity schedule. We may now add numerous aspects to it, such as budgeting and spending. Go to the budget log at the bottom of the screen and enter a project budget.
Using Project -> Maintain Baselines Create a baseline and assign it to the project using the Assign Baselines option in the Project menu.
Add a costs column to the activity details window, and enter the expense information based on project real-time data.
Now, open the Resource Usage spreadsheet and right-click the graph area. In the dialog window, select the Resource Usage Profile choices and then Cost. Click OK. We shall view the Resource Usage Cost Curve for our project resources.
Now, navigate to Projects--> Reports and build a new activity Cost report with Expenses and Budget columns. Preview the report and, if everything is fine, save it.
Now, construct a project reflection. To create a reflection, right-click on the project and pick Create Reflection from the popup menu.
This creates a new what-if project with a question mark as its folder icon. Right-click the question mark folder and pick open from the resulting menu. We now have the same schedule in our reflection.
Open the mirror and navigate to Tools -> Progress. It will automatically update after 15 days.
Navigate to View-->Attachments-->Curtains-->Add curtains. Add a curtain to the project 15 days from the start.
Curtain is used as desired. Now, add columns for actual labor cost, non-labor cost, and material cost to the project activity window. We may view the exact costs incurred using columns.
As a result, our project timetable is already fully fulfilled. We may see it using P6's Visualizer option. Select the visualizer from the P6 menu bar. Once Visualizer is launched,
Follow these steps:
Click Add. Choose TSLD from the alternatives presented.
In the Create or Open dialogue box:
Select your projects from the Available Projects list and move them to the Selected Projects list. You can search this list. Click Next.
Make a new layout or generate a new layout from an existing one. If you select Create new, provide a name for the layout. If you select Create new from existing, enter a name for the layout in the Name area and choose an existing layout from the Layout menu. We'll select Open from existing and then click Draw.
The project will be opened in Visualizers.
Select options from the top left corner of the screen. Edit the details as needed, then click on Save and Draw.
Thus, our project is now complete, and we may update, preview, and print the schedules and reports as needed for future usage.
