about module

a battery management system(BMS)IS any electronic system that manages arechargeable cycle for protecting battery from it safe operating area,monitor its state,calculating secondary data,reporting that data,controlling its environment

a battery pack is a set of any no. of identical battery.they are configured ina series ,parallel and mixture to deliver the desired voltage,capacity or power density

there are several type of chemistry used in Electrical vehicle propulsion sytem

EV design-battery calculation

assumptions:

battery energy=18kwh

voltage(to run the vehicle)=400V

(i)Energy=18kwh

(II)no. of cells(N)=ENErgy/nominal coltage

N=18000/(3.3*2.5)

N=2182

we need a minimum of 2182 cell to get 18 kwh energy now based on that we need to decide configuration=series and parallel

in series configuration capacity remains the same and voltage will be the sum of single cell voltage

in series capacity remains the same and voltage is sum of individual cell voltage

in parallel the voltage remains the same and capacity accumulates

no. of series cell required to produce 400V=voltage required/nominal voltage of one cell

Ns=400/3.3

Ns=121.21=122

122 cell are connected in series will generate 400 voltage and the capacity of whole module will be 2.5 Ah

now we need to find the no. of cells will be connected in a parallelcon.

Np=total cell/Ns

Np=2182/122

Np=17.8=18

so we take 18 cell in parallel for each

cell archtecture =122 cells in series and 18 parallel=122S18P

(iii) battery capacit

capacity=parallel cell row* individual cell capacity

=18*2.5

=45Ah

(IV) current supplied by the battery

we have calculated battery capacity which is 45Ah means it is going to supply 45A current per hour. which can be considered as C rate

(V) range

let powertrain energy consumption=100Wh at 70% powertrain efficiency

Range=capacit/energy consumed per kilometre

Range=180 km

(vi)internal resistance of battery

the entire resistance of battery:

the entire resistance encountered by a current as if flows thru a batteryu from negative terminal to the positive terminal is known as internal resistance of battery

(VII)battery dimensions

ANR 26650 CEll has 26 mm dia and 65 mm height. on the basis of that we need to decide battery size of battery casing.

Length of casing(L)=NO. OF CELL AT SERIES*(cell dia)+margin at both side+clearance at side

L=122*30+60

L=3721mm

Breadth of casing(b)=NO. OF CELL at parallel*(cell dia(26))+margin at both side(4)+clearance at side(dia. of edged cell+Margin)

B=18*30+60

B=600mm

height of casing (H)=65+35(heightof cell+margin for wiring,cell holders and metal strips)

H=100mm

(VIII)battery pack weight

cell weight=76g

no. of cell=2182

Batery pack weight(W)=cell weight*no. of cells+weight of accesories

W=76*2182+4.5=170.3 kg

cyllindrical battery pack assembly equipement

Lithium ion and lithium ion polyner batteries are a great power source for some application but they require preventive protection during discharging and charging
