Project 1 : CFD Meshing for Tesla Cyber Truck

Aim: CFD Meshing for Tesla Cyber Truck using Ansa.

Objective:

  • To check and solve all geometrical errors.
  • To Assign appropriate PIDs.
  • To perform meshing with the suitable Target length and element Quality criteria.
  • To give different target lengths for the different parts of a model.

Procedure:

  1. Topo cleanup is used for cleaning the geometry by removing unwanted surfaces and solving the single, double and triple cons.
  2. Geometry check is an irregular surface, shape and cons which are present in the geometry.
  3. We have to go stepwise geometry and topo clean up using a single surface or different parts such as body, windows, wheels, etc.
  4. We can do the symmetric option to make exactly the same same copy of the model at the other side.
  5. After getting completed the check for Geometry_Checks, Imported_STL_mesh, Surface_Mesh_Checks, POST_Surface_Wrapping_Checks, Volume_Mesh_Checks, Lattice_Boltzmann_Output_Checks.
  6. After the volumetric mesh we can check with the wind tunnel.

  • Half cut model

After cleaning up

  • In shadow mode.

  • In wireframe mode

Assign PID for Car

  • Car Body

  • Windows PID

  • Wheel PID

Meshing of Model

  • Body
    Mesh Length Body is 3mm
  • Windows
Mesh Length of Windows is 2mm.

  • Wheel
Mesh Length of Wheel is 2mm.

Windtunnel

  • Wire frame of Windtunnel

  • PID of Windtunnel

Conclusion

  • Working on the Tesla model gave ideas about different meshing tools available in ANSA.
  • Learned surface meshing and Geometry cleanup in a much detailed manner. Challenges faced helped to understand tools better.
  • Learned how to use curve tool, how to create win tunnel with help of points and curves.
  • Learned about dimensions of wind tunnel, like what dimensions to give based on model size.
  • Learned how to de meshing when there are different PIDs with different mesh length in contact with each other.
  • Learned use of reconstruct and move tool.
  • Worked on how to fix off elements.
  • Advance topo-cleanup.
