Project 1_Analyze and design a steel building to 10T CRANE as per IS standard code using TEKLA STRUCTURAL DESIGNER.

  • AIM : To analyze and design a steel building to 10T crane as per IS standard code using TEKLA STRUCTURAL DESIGNER
  • INTRODUCTION :
  1. First Order kinear analysis for most of the cases
  2. The process performed when this analysis is run can be summarized as follows

  • PROCEDURE :

  • Now click on New option to create a new model workspace
  • Using the model ribon using grid line and quick parallel grid line option the vertical grid was drawn
  • In the same above vertical grid lines was drawn

  • In the model toolbar select conctruction levels icon to open the construction levels and dialogue box
  • The construction level dialogue box apppears and name each level like base GF first floor and roof and heights was assigned to each level as shown

  • NOw add pedestal columns in the home menu click on manage property sets options and the manage property sets options and the manage property sets dialogue box appears
  • Click on new followed by membber and select concrete column

  • In the similar way concrete column was created steel beams was created
  • Now using the beam option in the ribbbon tab under the model menu beams was placed at locatons as required

  • Now using the column option in the riboon ta under the model menu column was placed at locations as required.Column was placed at ground floor and till topp roof
  • In the similar way concrete column was created steel beams was created
  • NOw using beam option in the ribbon tab under the model menu beams was oplaced at locations as required

  • Rafter beams was designed next for that click on manage property sets option and the manage property sets dialogue box appears .CLick on new followed bymembber and select steel beams
  • Rename the beams for our own convenience and apply the properties as required on the side
  • Now the rafter beam were applied using the beam option in the ribbon tab inder the model menu and beams was placed at locations as required
  • THe rafter beams releases was seet to fully fixed at both the ends for both rafter beamss
  • Steel bracings was designed next for that click on manage property sets options and the rafter beams releases was set to fixed at both the ends for both rafter beams

  • Section of size ISA 70 X 70 X 10 was choosen for designing the brace

  • Now steel braces were applied using bbrace option in the ribon tab under the model menu and bbraces was placed at locations by selecting 2 opposite corner ppoints.X brace options was selectedand drawnfor conveneience the braces as drwan an frames on both sides

  • Slab properties was designed next for that click on manage property sets options and the manage property sets dialogue box appears .Click on new followed by member and select slabs followed by general slab item .Rename the slab for our own convenience and apply the properties as required on the side
  • Now using the slab on beams options in the model menu the slabs was applied on all floors the ground floor intermediate floor and roof level too

  • In the similar way concrete column was created steel beams was created
  • Now using the beam option in the ribbbon tab under the model menu beams was placed at locatons as required
  • Brackets was defined to carry the crane load and was modelled on the first floor

  • For distributing loads the wall panels was applied to the column ising the wall panel option from the model menu
  • In the same manner the wall panel was applied to the opposite columns as shown

  • In the same way wall paneks was made next the roof panels were created and it is alos used for distrubution of the load and 3D view of the same is a shown

  • Load Combination
  • Initially based on IS 875 part 1 , all the dead loads in the steel structures were calculated as follows
  • Unit wt of concrete = 24
  • Finish loading = 0.05 X 24=1.2
  • Brick wall load ,unit weight = 20
  • Brick wall loading(GF-IF) = 0.15 X20X 5 =15 Kn/m
  • Brick wall loading =0.15 X 20X 7 =21 Kn/m

Self weight of the slab is calculated by software itself

  • Roof loading based on purlin size =1.5 Kn/m
  • Ceiling load =0.3KN/m
  • On the load tab click on load cases option at the top left corner to open the loading dialogue box.It open with these as the default loaing

  • On the load tab click on load cases option at the top left corner to open the loading dialogue box.It opens with these as the default loadings

  • In order to add new loadings like imposed ,wind ,seismic and crane loads click on add option in loading dialogue box and add them and select thre type from the drop down list

  • As we are going to apply the dead loads first select the dead loads option from the drop down list at the left bottom
  1. OPen2D view of the level within which you want to apply the load
  2. In the loading list ,select an appropriate load case
  3. On the load tab click area load
  4. In the properties window adjust the load details according to your needs
  5. CLick the panel to which you want to apply the load

  • Loads was applied in all floors and roofs
  • For roof loads was applied as full UDL
  • WIND LOAD COMBINATION
  1. Using the IS 875 -3 2015 the wind load acting on both wall and roof was calculated as shown

  • Apply manual wind load manually and create the new load cases by clicking on new add option and rename them as shown

  • Load case +y,+Cpi
  1. Now wind loads are applied based on values determined in calculation. For that initially open the correspopnding load case wind +y and +Cpi
  2. The faces A,B,C,D Corresponds to frame 7,3,A and D.Also negative values of load the load is acting away from the building and positive value implies it acts towords building
  • Load case +y,+Cpi
  1. The only diffrence in this above the step is the change in value of Cpi,here the negative Cpi value is considered the faces A,B,C,D corresponds to frame 7,3,A and D.Also ,the negative values of load implies the load is acting away from the building and positive value implies it acts towords the bbuilding
  2. Similarly ,all the loads were applied toi both roof and walls as shown
  3. All the same principles were followed here also while applying the roof load like the roof face EF and GF as well as positive and negative load values acting towords and away from the building

  • Crane loading was applied to the roof of the structure
  • Seismmic loading was also calculated using the seismic wizard in TSD and after that model is analyzed

  • RESULTS
  1. All loads were calculated and applied on the structure
  2. Analysis was performed amd member were adjusted for error
