Project 1
Aim: Buckling study with respect change in shape of support structures:
Procedure:
- Draw a square box with 100X100 mm crossection and 40 mm thickness in the model as shown in the image below:

Case 1:
Apply Cylindrical support structure with 7 mm as radius with length of 50mm as shown in the image below:

Now apply Buckling study as shown in the image below:

Now Apply PVC rigid as material for the entire model:

Meshing: Apply mesh size as 3mm to the support structures as shown in the image below:

Boundary canditions:
Now apply the Fixed support to the bottom:

Now apply the load of 560 N force by selecting proper face along downwards:

Now run the model and get the results as shown in the image below:

Results:
Amplitude of Buckling:

Maximum Amplitude for mode1:9.506E-03 mm.
No we will check the Buckling Factor of Safety as shown in the image below:

Buckling factor of safety is 6.842
Case 2:
Apply I section support structure with dimensions as shown in the image below:

Now apply 40 mm length to the structure by extruding it:

Now apply Buckling study as shown in the image below:

Now Apply PVC rigid as material for the entire model:

Meshing: Apply mesh size as 3mm to the support structures as shown in the image below:

Boundary canditions:
Now apply the Fixed support to the bottom:

Now apply the load of 600 N force by selecting proper face along downwards:

Now run the model and get the results as shown in the image below:

Results:
Amplitude of Buckling:

Maximum Amplitude for mode1:7.580E-03 mm.
No we will check the Buckling Factor of Safety as shown in the image below:

Buckling factor of safety is 39.867
Conclusion:
So from the 2 cases we can conclude that with the change of support structure cross-section from circle to I section Buckling factor of safety increses to the sufficient level.
So always I section support is prefered over circluar section in order to avoid Buckling.
