Mix Design
1. Target mean strength fck = 35 + 1.65*5 = 43.25 N/mm^2 (Standard deviation for M35 garde of cocrete is 5)
2. For severe weather condition max. water cement ratio is 0.45.
Based on experience, adopt water-cement ratio 0.4
0.4 < 0.45 Hence OK
Hence adopting the water cement ratio as 0.4
3. Slump value = 100
Therefore max. water content is 186 + 0.06*186 = 197.16 liters/m^3
As superplasticizer is used, the water content can be reduced by 30%
Based on trials water reduction of 29% is achieved with the superplastizer
Hence actual water content = 0.71*197.16 = 140 liters/m^3
4. Cementitious content (Cement + flyash) = 140/0.4 = 350 Kg/m^3
Minimum cement content for severe weather condition = 320 Kg/m^3, Hence OK
Since flyash is utilized, let cementitious material content = 1.1*350 = 385 Kg/m^3
So water-cement ratio = 140/385 = 0.364 (But 0.4 will only be used for further calculations; Superplasticizer will take care of it)
Fly ash @30% total cementitious material content = 385*0.3 = 115.5 Kg/m^3
Cement = 385 - 115.5 = 269.5 Kg/m^3
Saving of cement = 350 - 269.5 = 80.5 Kg/m^3
5. Volume of coarse aggregate correcponding to 20 mm size aggregate and fine aggregate for zone 1 is 0.6
Actual water content is 0.4 which is less by 0.1 Hence coarse aggregate content should be increased by 0.02
Hence coarse aggregate proportion is 0.62
For pumpable concrete it can be reduced by 10%
Hence final coarse aggreagte proportion is 0.9*0.62 = 0.56
Proportion for fine aggregate = 1 - 0.56 = 0.44
6. Mix Calculations
a. Volume of concrete = 1 m^3
b. Volume of cement = 269.5/3150 = 0.086 m^3
c. Volume of flyash = 115.5/2200 = 0.052 m^3
d. Volume of water = 140/1000 = 0.140 m^3
e. Volume of admixture = 7.6/1145 = 0.007 m^3
d. Volume of aggregates = 1- (0.086 + 0.052 + 0.140 + 0.007) = 0.715 m^3
e. Mass of coarse aggregate = 0.715 * 0.56 * 2740 = 1097.1 Kg
f. Mass of fine aggregate = 0.6637 * (1-0.549) * 2740 = 862.0 Kg
7. Mix proportions for Trial no. 1
Cement = 269.5 Kg/m^3
Fly ash = 115.5 Kg/m^3
Water = 140 litres/m^3
Fine aggregate = 862.0 Kg/m^3
Coarse aggregate = 1097.1 Kg/m^3
Chemical Admixture = 7.6 Kg/m^3
Water-Cement ratio = 0.4
Trail mix ratio = 1 : 2.24 : 2.85
