PROCEDURE:

1) Import the given file.

2) Create connections using Topo tool from topo module.

3) Check for geometrical errors, if found any rectifying them manually or using auto fix from checks manager.

4) Now for extracting the midsurface various methods were used. For the main body offset tool was to create the midsurface.

5) For the ribs middle tool with multi faces option was used to extract the midsurface. The figure shown below is one of the ribs whose midsurface had been extracted.

6) For the doghouse, the circular portion wasn't completed captured; instead a cross pattern was created using curves and manual surface tools. This method was used for all the doghouse components of the given model and the figure shown below is one of such components.

7) All the extracted surfaces were extended or intersect was created to create a triple con for the complex structure.

8) Some parts were directly meshed using the midsurface tool with the casting option. These parts were then connected to the parent surface using the intersect and extend tool and then remeshed accordingly.

9) For meshing the model we mainly spot meshing option to create a mesh for each macro area.

10) The mesh parameters and quality criteria were first defined before the meshing operation.

11)The mesh  which failed the criteria was remeshed using the improve tool from shell mesh category. According to the failure; reconstruction, reshape, smoothing or fix criteria were chosen to improve the mesh quality.

12) Some complex region such as the narrow regions of the ribs or the ribs connecting near the edge of the surface failed the quality criteria.

13) After all thsi considerations, a suitable mesh was obtained and the shells were drawn as solids.

CONCLUSION AND LEARNING OUTCOME:

1) The given assembly of dashboard panels was first geometrically connected and was then made suitable to extract midsurface using various methods such as offset, middle and also using midsurface.

2) The parts were then meshed using spot mesh to get a better mesh flow and the improve tool was used to remesh it according to our needs.

3) Mesh obtained had 94.12% of quads and 5.88% of trias. The elements which failed the quality were about 0.33% of the total mesh.

4) Some sections of model which had very low thickness weren't considered for midsurfacing and meshing process.
