Project 1
Project 1: Construction Planning using Primavera P6
Aim: To schedule the design and construction of a project in P6
Tools used: Tools used include Primavera P6 software, the Enterprise menu, EPS, the Projects menu, and WBS choices.
We need to create a realistic construction timeline for a primary school building. It will have a parking facility, internal roadways, and a main building outfitted with architectural, furniture, and electrical fittings, as well as basic electrical and plumbing operations.
Procedure:
Open the P6 software and navigate to Enterprise -> EPS. Click the Add button to create a new EPS with the name Skill Lync Education and correct ID. Assign OBS as the Skill Lync-Manager. After assigning all fields, click OK.
Now, right-click on the produced EPS and select ADD. Create a new project with the necessary name and ID under the appropriate EPS. Provide a scheduled start and end date. Set the rate type to Standard Rate and click Finish. Go to the defaults tab at the bottom of the page and set the project Calendar to 6*24.
Now open the project and right-click on the Activities dialog box. Select Add and start adding other activities as needed. Assign the appropriate activity id with a 10 increment. The last activity completed as part of the project will be designated as the finish milestone.
After you've added all of the activities, enter their durations in the Duration column.
Right-click on the Activity window and pick Columns. Add the Predecessors column and click Apply. Finally, click OK.
Assign predecessors to all activities using columns or directly through the Gantt chart with a mouse.
Assign appropriate relationships between activities and lags using the Predecessors tab at the bottom of the screen. Go to the status option at the bottom of the window and set the limits for an Activity as needed.
Right-click on the screen and select Columns. Insert the Remarks column from the user-defined field and click Apply. Finally, select OK.
Go to the View menu and select the Filter By option. From the Filters dialog box, select Critical and click Apply. Activities will be filtered based on critical activity.
Thus, our scheduling is done in accordance with our needs, and we can see the results as shown below.
The project is designed with a total of 51 activities organized under distinct WBS with appropriate links between them.
The entire activity network can be shown by selecting the Activity network option from the menu bar.
