Project 1
1. Design a battery pack for a car roughly 150 Kw with 120 V. Use 3500 mAh 3.6V nominal NMC chemistry cell.
a. Design the battery pack configuration.
b. Draw the BMS topology for this battery pack.
Answer:
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->a
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->a. <!--[endif]-->Battery pack configuration:
Data given: power= 150Kw ; voltage = 120 V. cells : 3500mAh = 3.5 Ah , 3.6 V
Number cells in serial = voltage pack / individual cell voltage
= 120/3.6
=33.33
Number of cells in series =33.33
= 34 cells.
------------------ -----------------------------
calculating the current ratings :
power P = V voltage * current I
I = power / voltage V
I= 150*1000/120
I= 1250A
The number of cells to be in parallel to full fill the needed amps:
Total I = 1250
Per cell I = 3.5Ah
Number of cells = 1250/3.5 =357.14
We may round off to 358 = 358.

b Draw the BMS topology for this battery pack
We have to consider the serially connected cells ,
above 18 – we cannot choose the centralized.
The correct option is ,master & slave method

TOPOLOGY:
Number of cells in series = 34

2. Build a 3S2P battery pack configuration with generic battery block using Matlab/Simulink. :
number of cells on series= 3
number of cells on parallel= 2

blocks used : battery, controlled current source, constant block
