Challenge

Project 1

Objective

The given IP model needs to be midsurfaced and meshed.

Procedure

1. the given ip model is imported into ANSA

2. Once the model is imported, a geometry check is carried out to see whether there are any topography issues

3. All the issues are fixed and the model is good to go with midsurfacing. Here, the skin offset or casting will not work since it has varying thickness and ribs, hence the midsurface extraction is carried out manually. Here to the most of the part the thickness of the component is 0.6 mm.

4. The midsurface for most of the surfaces are captured as usual and PIDs are set accordingly.

5. Now coming to the doghouses, The dog houses do not have any thickness inside hence, it is very difficult to properly capture them. Alternatively, the doghouses are captured using a single surface, depicting the position and height of that particular doghouse.

6. As shown above, the model is midsurfaced and extended to the original surface. Once the midsurface is carried, the geometry is checked for any deviations and cracks. If there are any, then it is fixed by removing that particualr surface and recreating it.

7. Once it is done, the model is meshed for the given quality criteria. there are some elements which fail, due to the ribs' line.

8. The skewness error and warpage errors are removed by smoothening the mesh at the local areas.

Conclusion

The given half IP model is midsurfaced and meshed according to the given quality criteria parameters.
