Challenge

Project 1

Develop a double-acting actuator model using Simscape Multibody and Simscape components. The mechanical system of the cylinder needs to be built using Simscape Multibody library components / blocks, and the hydraulic system needs to be modelled using Simscape library physical components.

Solution:

Here we want to construct a Double acting actuator model using simscape Multibody and simscape components.

so we need to construct to different system which is the mechanical output by means of piston and cyclinder and the hydraulic input

Before that lets get the basic of the Piston and cyclinder by the Mathworks.

The schematics show the cylinder in three configurations: half-retracted, fully retracted, and fully extended.

The above figure shows the movement of the piston and cyclinder motion.

MECHANICAL SYSTEM:

For the mechanical system we need to construct the Piston and cyclinders by means of multibody blocks.

Blocks Used:

For cyclinder:

Cyclinderical solid

Revolved solid

The block diagram has been pasted for the cyclinder connection.

For Piston:

Blocks Used

Cyclinder solid

The block diagram has been given below.

The force for the blocks is connected by means of the Prismatic joint by which we can get the positon and Displacement of the Mechanical system.

The detailed Mechanical system is pasted below by means of the combining the cyclinder , piston and the Prismatic joint

Now we need to model the Hydraulic system for which we need the various blocks of simscape which is mentioned below.

Hydraulic Fluid

Hydraulic Reference

Hydraullic pressure source

Pressure Relief valve

4 way directional valve

Translational Hydro mechanical converter

Mechanical Reference

The diagram has been given below.

So in order the combine the both the Multibody and simscape we need Translational Multibody intereference.

And the following blocks of the world frame, solver, Mechanism configuration are connected in order to get the ouput

The output is obtained by means of the scope.

The whole model is pasted below.

The output has been given below.
