Planetary Gear
PROJECT REPORT ON MOTION ANALYSIS OF PLANETARY GEAR
Objective
1. To calculate pitch circle diameter and number of teeth for the planet gear
2. To Assemble the sun gear, four planet gears, ring gear and carrier using solidworks softwear
3. To perform motion analysis on 3D assembly
4. To find angular velocity of different assembled part by using given 3 conditions.
Theory
An epicuclic geat train also known as a planetary gearset consists of two gears mounted so that the centre of one gear revoles around the revolves around the centre of the other. A carrier connects the centres of the two gears and rotates to carry one gear, called the Planet gear, around the other, called the sun gear. The planet and sun gears mesh so that their Pitch circle roll without slip.
The load form the gear is distributed to several planetary gears which can either be used to drive an outer ring on a shaft or spindle. The central sun gear takes a high speed, low torque input. it drives several rotating external gears which increases the torque

Design Parameters of the gears
SL.NO PARAMETERS RING GEAR SUN GEAR
1 Module 2.5 2.5
2 No. of teeth 46 14
3 Pitch diameter 46*2.5=115 14*2.5=35
4 Shaft diameter 130 NA
Planet gear claculations
1. Module = 2.5
2. (PD of ring gear) = (PD of sun gear) + 2*(PD of Planet gear)
115 = 35 + 2* (PD of Planet gear)
PD of Planet gear = 40 mm
3. No. of teeth = PD / module
= 40 / 2.5
= 16
Motion Analysis
Given data
| Sl.No | Input | Output | Fixed |
| 1 | Sun Gear | Carrier | Ring Gear |
| 2 | Ring Gear | Carrier | Sun Gear |
| 3 | Sun Gear | Ring Gear | Carrier |
Case 1
- Motor input of 200rpm is applied to the sun gear
- Ring gear is fixed
- The result which is angular velocity v/s time graph of carrier is shown below
- The result shown that the angular velocity is increased highly during initially and then small spikes is shown

Case 2
- Motor input of 200rpm is applied to the Ring gear
- Sun gear is fixed
- The result which is angular velocity v/s time graph of carrier is shown below
- The result shown that the angular velocity is increased highly during initially and then small spikes is shown

Case 3
- Motor input of 200rpm is applied to the Sun gear
- Carrier is fixed
- The result which is angular velocity v/s time graph of ring gear is shown below
- The result shown that the angular velocity is increased highly during initially and then small spikes is shown

Result
- In case 1 the angular velocity is varried between 222 to 296 deg/ sec
- In case 2 the angular velocity is varried around 945 deg/ sec
- In case 2 the angular velocity is varried around 387 deg/ sec
