TITLE: Designing the full component and assembly of ” AMERICAN CHOPPER ”

INYRODUCTION

The presented report covers the designing part of ”American Chopper”, a complete assembly of it and rendering. Here we are going the design the various components of the chopper.

OBJECTIVE

The practice of creating things can be justified as DESIGN. Here we will understand how tools work when we use them and we will focus on designing the various components of the American Chopper by the means of these tools and complete design.

PARTS AND EXPLANATION

  • TRANSMISSION BELT

A belt is a loop of flexible material used to link two or more rotating shafts mechanically, most often parallel. Belts may be used as a source of motion, to transmit power efficiently or to track relative movement. Belts are looped over pulleys and may have a twist between the pulleys, and the shafts need not be parallel.

In a two pulley system, the belt can either drive the pulleys normally in one direction (the same if on parallel shafts), or the belt may be crossed, so that the direction of the driven shaft is reversed (the opposite direction to the driver if on parallel shafts). As a source of motion, a conveyor belt is one application where the belt is adapted to carry a load continuously between two points. The belt drive can also be used to change the speed of rotation, either up or down, by using different sized pulleys.

To design the belt we have to use features like 2D sketcher , Extrude , Fillet

Process;

  1. Select the front plane to sketch¸ draw a line horizontal with the origin and three point arc, and dimension it to make fully defined.
  2. Make an offset of 3.50mm of last sketch inward direction.
  3. Create an extrude feature by selecting sketch, and extrude it by giving dimensions.
  4. Use fillet all side of the corner for smooth finish.
  5. Give the appearance to the transmission belt of Rubber Matte to give a realistic look.
  • KICKSTAND

A metal rod attached to a bicycle or motorcycle, lying horizontally when not in use, that may be kicked into a vertical position to support the vehicle when it is stationary.

To design a Kickstand we have to use feature like 2D sketcher, Extrude , Extrude Cut, Dome and Fillet

Process;

  1. Draw an ellipse on front plane which is horizontal to the origin and make the sketch fully define by giving it dimension with respect to the origin. Then select the right plane and make a spline selecting origin and dimensioning it. Activate the spline handle and provide a proper dimension to it. Now create a new plane on the end of the spline. Again draw an ellipse on the plane and make a pierce relation to the end of spline which will help us to create the loft of our desire.
  2. Apply elliptical Dome feature on the end of the spline, use Fillet to create smoothness to the kickstand.
  3. Give appearance of Chrome Plate to give a realistic view to the Kickstand.
  • FRONT FENDER

A car fender is a rigid vehicle panel that houses the wheel well. It forms an arch that is designed to protect the wheel and prevent road debris such as rocks, sand, and mud from being thrown into the air by the spinning tire. A pair of front and rear fenders can be found on each side of a vehicle. Aside from keeping your vehicle clean, car fenders protect vital components from minor collisions. They also help define the car's overall style and design. They provide classy contours that give your car a classy, edgy look, especially when your vehicle is viewed from the side. They also help improve your car's aerodynamics, so your car is not only cleaner but also faster.

To design a Front Fender we have to use feature like 2D sketcher, Revolve, Surface Trim, Thicken , Extrude Cut, Fillet.

Process;

  1. On the front plane draw a 3 point arc above the origin which will be vertical to the origin. Use offset feature on the arc inward and then extend the entities. Then close the arc with line entities.
  2. Select the sketch and use revolve feature through construction line specifying the angle in both direction. Select the body and cut out the remaining part.
  3. Use Fillet at the edge of the front fender for smoothness. Apply the appearance by selecting “SIENNA” colour.

  • REAR FENDER

To design the Rear Fender we have to use features likes 2D sketch, Extrude cut, Thicken, Shell, Revolve , Surface Trim Fillet.

Process;

  1. Draw a 3 point arc above the origin, which will be vertical to the origin on the Front plane. Use offset feature on the arc in inward direction, and extend the entities. Close the arc with the help of Line entities.
  2. Select the sketch and use Revolve feature through construction line specifying the angle on the both direction. Select the body and cut out the remaining part.
  3. Use fillet at the edge of the Rear fender for the smoothness of the part. Apply the appearance SIENNA to give a realistic view to the fender.
  • OIL TANK

Any tank for containing or storing oil such as a very large oil storage container at a refinary; a large oil storage area on an oil tank; or a smaller container for the storage of heating oil at a property.

To design an oil tank we have use features like 2D sketch, surface extrude, surface trim, Surface Knit , Fillet, Shell, Extrude.

Process

  1. Select the top plane and draw a 2D sketch of the oil tank using line and 3 point arc. Make it fully define by providing relations between them. Extrude the part.
  2. Select the front plane and draw 2D sketch using spline, line. Make the sketch fully defined. Then extrude it by midplane and combine the part.
  3. Use Fillet on the each corner of the oil tank to give a smooth finish. Apply appearance of SIEANNA to give a realistic view.

  • CHAIN

A chain is a serial assembly of connected pieces, called links, typically made of metal, with an overall character similar to that of a rope in that it is flexible and curved in compression but linear, rigid, and load-bearing in tension. A chain may consist of two or more links.

To design a Chain we have to use features like Extrude, Mirror, Fillet, Curve drive pattern .

PROCESS;

  1. Select the front plane and draw the sketch. The origin should be in the middle of the bigger circle. Draw the path of chain by using line and arc. Use insert block feature to insert the 2d sketch of the Links. Make relations of the Links with the curve driven path and extrude the pins and plates. Apply fillet to give them a smooth appearance.
  2. Select the next arc and insert the blocks , also give the relations to make them defined. After doing on the whole curve separate pins and plates in a new folder and mirror them.
  • PEDALS

Pedals can be defined as the foot rester , where the rider usually put its feet while driving.

To design pedal we have to use features like 2D sketch, extrude, revolve, dome, linear pattern , fillet, chamfer.

PROCESS

  1. Draw the sketch on the Front Plane with the help of 5 lines and 2 splines and provide dimension with respect to the origin. Make it fully define and then Extrude it. Use Dome on circular feature.
  2. Use Linear Pattern across the boss extrude. Use distance distance chamfer option.

  • FRONT WHEEL AND REAR WHEEL

To design REAR and FRONT wheel we have to use features like Extrude, Extrude Cut, Revolve, Revolve Cut, Fillet, Chamfer, Linear Pattern, Circular Pattern, Mirror, Combine.

PROCESS

  1. On front plane create the sketch of the upper part of the wheel by drawing a construction line through origin to upward and make the sketch fully defined.
  2. Turn the Temporary Axis to revolve.
  3. On the right plane draw construction line from origin to upward and draw the next construction line angle driven. Use Spline command . Select the all three entities and mirror them using Vertical Construction line as reference. Extrude the feature.
  4. For Spider webbed design, offset all the 3 entities of other side. Use te Cut Extrude feature to remove the material.
  5. Draw three circle concentric to each other, convert them to entities and offset it inward to get the intersection point. Trim the unnecessary entities. Use three point arc to draw arc from the intersection point of all the three circles. Make the sketch fully dimension and Extrude the Sketch.
  6. On front plane draw Spline from Origin to Upward to remove the unnecessary area. Extrude cut the sketch.
  7. Use the Circular Pattern to pattern the Spder webbed design. Combine the solid.
  8. On front plane draw circle and Extrude it. Select the extruded circle and sketch on it. Draw small new circle. Use Linear pattern to with equal instances, cut extrude part.
  9. Convert the intersection curve and draw arc and line . Then Revolve it. Create profile on tire and Extrude Cut it. Use fillet to smoothen the cut. Apply appearance.
  • FRONT FORK

To design the Front fork we have to use features like Extrude, Revolve. Fillet, Sweep , Shell, Mirror , Dome. Chamfer, Projected Curve.

PROCESS;

  1. On front plane draw cylindrical diagram using line. Define it. Switch to feature tab and Revolve it.
