Photo Realistic Rendering

INTRODUCTION:

I was initially excited and also had apprehensions of designing such an intricate model of an automobile. As the course progressed, the apprehensions and misgiving I had petered out and I went into designing the chopper at full stream. It was such an experience designing the whole model from scratch. I happened to learn the in and outs of the SOLIDWORKS. I am looking forward to more of the design in yacht design.

COMPONENTS AND WHAT I LEARNT FROM THEM:

TRANSMISSION BELT

Designing the Transmission belt was very easy. It featured simple tools but gave me the basic idea of what to expect in the SOLIDWORKS.

REAR AND FRONT FENDER

Rear fender and front fender were quite similar in approach. Split option is a great one and can be used in different way.

SIDESTAND

The side stand was yet another easy component to design. Pierce option was very useful and interesting.

CHAIN, OIL TANK AND FOOT PEDAL

Chain was a bit tough to design. Especially the circular patterning. Got to learn about the blocks feature and stuffs. Also got to know Convert Entities and Slots.

Combine feature while designing Oil Tank was also interesting. Foot pedal was easier as it only involved reusing most of the used features

FRONT AND REAR WHEEL

Different methods of Linear Patterning were interesting. Temporary axis was also very important to know with more and more uses in the other parts. Combine feature was once again used in a different way. It was good.

Designing Rear wheel was very similar to the front wheel with just a few extra features. So it was pretty easy.

FRONT FORK

It was while designing the front fork I got to learn a whole lot of new features. Since the handle bar and lever have to be designed in different perspectives, the MOVE/COPY feature was used. And the Projected Curve. It was bit complicated. Reference axis was used for the first time. Also, reference plane using an axis and another plane was created.

CHASSIS

Import Sketch was useful as a reference. Chassis comprised of using projected curves extensively. It was great designing the overall design of the chassis using just the curve features.

OIL TANK

Designing the Engine oil tank was most difficult for me. I had to do a lot of edits going front and back to get the design as good as possible. The entire surface option was used in designing the Oil tank. The split line feature is another interesting feature that can be often used.

ASSEMBLING THE COMPONENTS

Assembly as well took a quite a lot of time. Getting to know how to mate different types of components into one was very good.

CONCLUSION

It was a wholesome learning of the SOLIDWORKS. It was enlightening, quite fun and arduous at times. Having sailed through this, looking forward to design the yacht.
