MBD Simulation on IC Engine Valve Train
IC ENGINE VALVE TRAIN
AIM
To model and simulate IC engine valve train and obtain the results of valve lift, Contact force between
1.cam and push rod
2.push rod and rocker arm
3.rocker arm and valve
in 2 different cases and compare them
VALVE TRAIN
This project gives us insight about what happens in the valve mechanism. The inlet and exhaust valve in engines are governed by this mechanism. It contains a cam, push rod, roker arm, valve and valve mount and a spring.
CAM LIFT
CASE1
6mm
L=13.5 R1=12.5 R2=5
therefore, cam lift= (13.5-12.5)+5 = 6mm
CASE2
3.5mm
L=11 R1=12.5 R2=5
therefore, cam lift= (11-12.5)+5 = 3.5mm

SIMULATION
The part and assemblies are modeled accordingly and mated correctly. For case1, cam is modified by changing the L=13.5(distace btw 2 circles). Then the motion analysis is conducted and plots are obtained. For case2, the cam is edited to L=11. and the motion analysis is done and plots are obtained. Other parameter like spring contact and material are also changed for proper functioning

CONCLUSION
All the results are obtained correctly. The valve lift graphs in 2 cases correctly denote the cam lifts as 55mm for 6mm cam lift and 52.5 for 3.5mm cam lift.
The change in plot of contact force between rocker arm and valve with magnitude and X direction is beacuse magnitude gives us the net contact force action bte the components while plot with X direction gives us the frictional contact force between the 2 surfaces. The direction change in X direction plot is due to the change in positive and negative direction while moving up and down of the 2 components and that of the frictional forces.
