Internal Geneva Mechanism

INERNAL GENEVA MECHANISM

The aim and objective of the project is to learn about the internal Geneva Mechanism and do its motion analysis in soildworks and compare the results of plot of contact forces, angular measurement and angular velocity

Geneva Mechanism

The Geneva Mechanism is a gear mechanism that translates a continuous rotation movement into intermittent rotary motion.
The Mechanism contains 2 parts- Driver wheel and Driven wheel. The driver wheel has a pin which passses through the slots os driven wheel.
In Internal Geneva Mechanism, the slots of the driven wheel are in the interior of the wheel and driver wheel is below it.

SIMULATION
The motion anaysis is carried out in Soildworks software.
The first step is to create the driven and the driver wheel as per the contraints given in the project as 2 seperate parts. Then we have to import them to assembly where we have to mate these part in accordance with the assembly planes as well as between the parts. Then we have to properly assign the important distance mate between the centres of parts to establish the correct positioning as well as to ensure proper motion.
After these steps we will be able to freely rotate each part precisly.
The next step is to conduct the motion analyis with 10RPM and 20RPM and obtain the plot of Contact forces, angular velocity and angular displacements

The plot of Contact force at 10 rpm has been done with 2 faces of 2 part that comes in contact.
The plot of angular displacement has connection btw 3 points which forms the angle relation.
The plot of angular velocity has the connection with the distance mate between the 2 parts.

Conclusion
It can be concluded that at 10 RPM, while comparing contact force with and without precision, there is good amount of variation in the plots.
There is also a shaking motion when pin comes to the slot which leads to higher contact forces.
The angular displacement varies from 3 deg to 177 deg.
The angular velocity plot has higher values at time when pin enters the slot. During the time in the slot the angular velovity increases gradually.
