MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly

IC ENGINE PISTON ASSEMBLY

AIM
Our aim is to model all the parts, assemble them in solidworks, to conduct Motion analysis in 3 differnt condtions and to compare the linear displacements.

PISTON ASSEMBLY
We are simulating the piston movement inside the cylinder. Assembly contains major parts like pistonhead, crank and connecting rod.
Crank is the part of crank shaft. Its rotates in its axis.
Connecting rod connects the crank and piston head. It changes the rotary motion of crank to the linear motion of piston head.
Finally Piston Head compress the gases and air fuel mixtures.

SIMULATIONS
The modeling is done as per the dimesions and 5 different part are modeled- Crank, Connecting Rod, Wrist Pin, Pistonhead and End Cap.
Then they are imported to assembly, where the correct mates are given for the correct motion and finally motion analysis is done.
The analysis is done for 3 different and the plot of linear displacement is obtained.
Final Excel spreadsheet couldn't be to done as I didnt have access to it.

PLOTS
Omm Offset

10mm Positive Offset

10mm Negative Offset

CONCLUSION
We observe the plot are same in a macro point of view. But in a more microscopic view, the upper linear displacement at 0mm offset is definitly more that 10mm positive and negative offset. This is because of the 0mm offset, the connecting rod can move in the maximum distace way(perpendical the rotation). Same happens in Lower linear diplacement also. This will eventually result in more volume for 0mm offset condition than the other 2 comdtions.
