Introduction to National Building Code and Steps in a Construction project
1)The building codes or standards can place a major role in getting the better outputs. The codes can give the idea or limits to make the plan or execute the construction. They can give the idea of construction safety.it will give the modern construction methods by revised versions. Also provides the building standards.
2) There are 9 groups based on type of construction:
- Group A: Residential building
- Group B: Educational buildings
- Group C: Assembly buildings
- Group D: Institutional buildings
- Group E: Mercantile buildings
- Group F: Business buildings
- Group G: Storage buildings
- Group H: Industrial buildings
- Group J: Hazardous buildings
3) The major steps that occur in project cycle:
- Initiation: it means start with searching of site and completing the registrations and necessary permissions from the local body.
- Planning: it means creating all necessary plans which are architectural, structural and etc,.
- Execution: it means carrying the project in practical manner and should be same as per the plans and considerations made in the plans
- Closure: it means the final completion of project with all necessary considerations made in the plan and handing over to the customer.
4) There are many disciplines which works together to get a good output:
Which are Construction discipline, finance and estimating, contracts and bid, geotechnical, managements, structural, surveying, electrical, plumbing, etc,.
5) a) Four-unit apartments: group A- Residential buildings
b) School with capacity of 1000 students: Group B-Educational buildings
c) A single unit shop: Group E- mercantile buildings
d) Multistorey shipping complex: Group E-mercantile
e)Steel machine factory: Group H- industrial building
6) design team: which helps in designing the project model and in finalising them. Also helps in evaluation of the project and implementation of designs
Management team: these team can play a role in accomplishment of project, Execute the design, achieves the satisfactory completion of the project.
7) a) as per NBC 2005, clause C-2.5, the height of the building shall not exceed 15m (page no 43), (my previous plans made In challenge 1 to 4 doesn’t exceeded the height as given in NBC).
b)as per NBC C-2.3.1, page no 43, the minimum plot size with ground coverage not exceeding 75%, shall not be less than 40 sq.m in small and medium town and not less than 30 sq.m in metropolitan area.(in my challenges, the area considered is around 190 sq.m. so, my plans are safe as per NBC).
c)as per NBC 2005,c-3.3, page no 43, my room size is high as per the NBC.
d)as per NBC 2005: clause F-3.4, the average minimum height of rooms and space should be 2.75m.(my plan contains 3m height which is above the norms as per NBC).
e)thickness of masonry wall is also satisfied(8”) in my plan as per table 2 of fire and life safety section of NBC 2005.
- f) as per NBC 2005, table 1, the passage way have the width and length considerations. But, in my model, I didn’t provided any passage way because of small model.
8) my model have satisfied all necessary considerations as per NBC 2005, which I have done in challenge 4.
