Hood design-Week 2

HOOD - Its is an opening body panel that covers the engine in a front engine vehicles & hood can also allow access to the engine compartment , or trunk on rear engine & some mid engine vehicle for maintainance & repaier, its also known as Bonnet

In hood panel there are two panels :- INNER PANEL - The inner panel provides strength to hood panel fig.Inner pannel

Outer panel - Its a metal cover body & also called reinforcement of inner pannel.

LATCH TRAJECTORY - While the assembling the latch with the hood panel it is strictly recommended that the position of latch striker should be placed such that the latch stricker exactly fit into the lock hole on the engine compartment.

MASTIC DATA - As we know that we cannot use bolts or welding thats why we're doing with the help of the hemming and mastic data. These are elastic compound that behaves like the rubber. It was places bet inner panel or owter panel. Mastic data is provided to increase the strength of the panel and has influence of 80mm dia.

EMBOSS - Emboss is very important for car hood panel. while car accident most of the impacts are directly hit the hood (bonnet) panel and thus can harm the sitting under the car so to overcome this problem generally, v or y shaped are given in the panel so if the impact was come it can divert towards the corner points of hood panel.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS:-

  • DEEP DRAWING - Deep drawing is a process where sheet metal forming in which a sheet metal blank is mechanical action of a punch.
  • HEMMING - Metal working process in which a sheet metal edge is rolled over onto itself.

Hemming are commonly used for reinforced an edge and attached the inner panel and outer panel.
