Hood design-Week 2

HOOD is an hinged cover over the engine , it  is used to protect the engine from the environment, it is also considered as another door in biw components.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS ARE

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->1.  Functional requirements

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->4.     <!--[endif]-->Important regulatins

      Joining operations

1.Functional requirements

it should have a proper opening angle which will reduces the hitting chances of  a person , these are functional requirements and it  should be closed properly without any miss alignments. these are the general guidlines followed while designing.

2. important regulations

  1. Pedestrian safety in every crash test they eill provide a safety assurance which is conducted by a euroncap. which is mostky important factor to get a good reputation in the market to get this they should be mostly focusing on the pedestrian safety . i designed such a way my hood will be get absorb the impact energy from the pedestrian head and it reduces the chances of fatality.
  2. Driver safety / passenger safety these are the next importabnt criteria to get best afety rating . the hood is designed such a way that it absorbs the majority of the impact caused by frontal crash test is absorbed within the hood and reduces the impact energy desipating insde the car.

3. joining operation

we have consider that the joining operation which should not be effect the asthetic appearence on a car.

so the outer pannel and inner pannel are joined together by using heming operation

Heming is aprocess of bending a sheet to orthognally to the reference by passing the rollers on the edges of a sheet t.

there are design considerations while doing heming operation.

4. INNER PANNEL DESIGN

during designing a hood inner pannel one should follow the master section which is provided . the emboses ust not exceed these master sections.

the emboses has to be designed ina way that maximum force should be desepated equally to all the directions.

the hood designed in a way that it abbsorbs the impact energy iside it

5. Embose design

emboses are designed such a  way ehich is longitudinally placed, by reducing the impact energy  within the hood,

it is designed such a way that it absorbs energy which is logitudnally forces are restricted and desipated by bending action in upwards.

it is also designed such a way that it absorbs the pedestrian head impact by providing cutouts.

 6. Manufacturability.

mainly all body in white components are designed for deep drawing operations

that it should be provided by a draft angle of greater than 7 degrees. durin desining one shpuld consider the manufacturability of a designed componet.

these are the main design critera followed by  a design engineer.

7.Mastics

mastics are provided in between the inner and outer pannel of a carhood assembly. these are type of adhessives which get hardend while heatingin , these are used t reduce the vibreations generated in the car .
