Challenge

Foundation Design using SAFE

Aim - to model the isolated footing. analyze it for pile group to be used, depth of pile and longitudnal steel on top and bottom face in both directions.

procedure - 1. open SAFE and input the following data

Single footing to be selected next

subgrade modulus = FOS x SBC/settlement = 3x150/0.05 = 9000 Kn/m^3

compression axial load for load combination is 2000 kn

Unfactored load = 2000/1.5 = 1333.33 kn

1333.33/2 = 666.55 kn

thicknesss of footing = 800mm

material property data

click DEFINE, then Material properties

M25 grade concrete

Mod. of elasticity, E = √25x 5000 = 25000N/mm^2

Fe500 rebar to be added

slab propeties defined next as shown

define dead load and live load pattersn next

define load case combination next

analysis to be performed after this step

perform analysis by adding design strip

A2 - Aim - to model adn analyze the pile cap on SAFE to evaluate the following

data - column size = 600x600mm

unfsctored load = 1175 Kn

pile length= 16m

pile diameter = 500mm

load carrying capacity = 200Kn

Calculation = no of pilers = 1175/200 = 5.8 = 6

spring constant = E x A / L

E= 25000N/mm^2

A = π/4 x 500^2 = 196349 mm^2

pile lenght = 16000 mm

spring constant = E x A/L = 25000x196349/16000=306795 N/mm

open SAFE and input the settings. 50mm cover at top and bottom. bar size = 16mm

select M25 grade of concrete and E = 25000 N/m

define pile cap details

column details

pile details

draw points

modify edge distance to 0.3m

create 600x600mm column using draw option

add springs next

dead load and live load of 587.5 kn added next

after running analysis, max displacement was found to be 0.840 whoch is safe

all punching shear values are less than 1 so its safe

joint reaction diagram

add reinforcement details in X and y direction and run analysis

slab reinforcement design

pile cap doundation design
