Challenge

Foundation Design using SAFE

1.

Aim: Model the isolated footing provided in week 11 challenge on SAFE. Analyze and design it to verify the size, depth and steel provided as per calculations.

Procedure:

Open the new model file and select single footing

given the all required values as I get calculation values

Define the material properties of concrete M25grade and Fe500 HYSD rebars

modal check

define the slab properties

displacement check its under permissible value is 50mm

24mm<50mm so it's safe.

soil pressure is below 150kn/m^2>140.4kn/m2

punching shear ratio value is below one, so it's safe

ultimate bending stress:

bending moment strip force

shear force in strip

Flexural reinforcement design for footing slab:

2. Ans

Aim:

A column of size 600x600 carrying an unfactored gravity load (DL+LL) of 1175 KN is to be supported on pile cap, which ultimately transfers load to the piles underneath. Piles of 16 meters length and 500 mm diameter are to be used. Each pile has a load carrying capacity of 200 KN. Model, Analyse and design the pile cap on SAFE to evaluate the following:

  • Pile group to be used
  • Depth of pile cap
  • Longitudinal steel on top and bottom face in both directions

Procedure:

1.open a new model and set the grids x and y direction is 2 reference grids at distance of 4m

2.define the materials as Fe500, Fck25

3. define the Slab section properties column stiff 500mm thick, pile stiff diameter is 500mm and thickness is 500mm, pile cap is 500mm thick

4.draw the pile cap next draw the reference points and draw the pile stiffs and column stiffs

5.add the load combinations service loads, ultimate loads and surcharge loads

6.add the strips a and b in x and y direction

checks:

1.settlement under service load

2. Two-way shear check

3. individual pile capacity is 200kn we satisfied this

4.flexural reinforcement design for footing slab
