Final Project: Design of an Electric Vehicle
Final Project: Design of an Electric Vehicle
Create a MATLAB model of an electric car that uses a battery and a DC motor. Choose suitable blocks from the Powertrain block set. Prepare a report about your model including the following:
Objectives:
1. System-level configurations
2. Model parameters
3. Results
4. Conclusion
Solution:
EV Powertrain Block diagram:

Main components of an Electric Vehicle
1. Battery
2. Power Electronics Controller & Control signals (PWM)
3. Motor
4. Wheels
5. Charger
I am taking the reference: MG ZS EV << Click Here for PDF
MG ZS EV/Curb weight: 1,568 kg
Battery Capacity: 44.5 kWh 394 V lithium-ion
Current: 112.94Ah
Tyre & Wheel: 215/50 R17 Diamond cut Machined Alloy Wheel
For this model design 1st, we need a Battery Capacity: 44.5 kWh 394 V lithium-ion
create a subsystem of the battery.

SoC % Subsystem
2nd subsystem is the Motor parameters and motor control parameter:

We are controlling the motor speed using the H-bridge and PWM with the duty cycle using the below blocks.

motor shaft as an output will connect to wheel block.

3rd subsystem is Wheel and vehicle body parameters:

Vehicle Body block is to determine the vehicle mass, frontal area, drag coefficient, ait density parameters.

this block is Tire (Magic Formula) which helps in configuring the tire parameters:

Simulink Model for Electric Vehicle:

Result:

The Distance Traveled by the EV is 9.924Km.

SoC% is in between 55%-60%.

#Conclusion
- The range of the vehicle depends upon the various parameter such as
- battery capacity, acceleration, and declaration of vehicle
- Motor efficiency
- wheel quality
- In the SoC% graph, you can observe the charging and discharging slop clearly.
