Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
AIM: To calculate the wheel arch radius of given fender module and check it pass the european standards of wheel arch.
Wheel arch:
As pre the the u.s.standards lines are drawn from the center of the wheel for every 10 degrees from -20 to 180 degrees as shown in the fig, the clearence gap between the wheel and the fender wheel arch should not be less than 5mm at every 10 degree angle.
3) European standards:

As per european standards the clearence L should not be less than 10mm at all the 5 points SB, SA, SD, SE.
Here, lets check the given fender and wheel module will satisfy the european standard.
Procedure:
1)Create a plane on the wheel and draw a construction line SA from wheel center.
2)Draw 2 similar lines SB and SC at 30 and 50 degree angles respectively to line SA from center of the wheel.
3)create a horizontal line passing from center of the wheel and offset it to 150mm upward, mark its point of intersectrion with the edge of the wheel.
4)Draw a line passing through center and intersecting point. create bisector using bisecting lines and name lines SD and SE.
5)finish the sketch and measure the distance between the fender outer edge and the lines drawn to the wheel center.

To find the distance use simple dimensions
From the design the gap between the fender outer edger and the line SB drawn on the outer edge of wheel is 15mm, which satisfies the european standard which not less than 10mm. similarly calculated for other lines SA, SC, SD, SE.

The following values are achived when measured
- SB-15MM
- SA-14.9MM
- SC-4.8MM
- SD-2.1MM
- SE-1MM
Conclusion:
In this project the lines SA and SB are satisfies the european standard where as other lines are not. Hence we say style team to do modifications on thew fender wheel arch.
