Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Objective of Wheel arch challenge :-

The objective of the wheel arch challenge is to be calculate the wheel arch area and to prove whether the given fender of car will pass the European standards or not.

FENDER

Fender is the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.

Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle

Drawing the sketch as per the European standards and regulations and projecting the sections on the fender to obtain the measurements for 'L' AND 'a'.

Measuring the values of clearance "L" at all sections:

At all five sections values of 'L' should be greater than 10mm to satisfy the European regulations, let's see the the images below.

Measuring the values of clearance "a" Wheel Guard requirement:

To satisfy the European requirements the value of 'a' should be more than 5mm at a line 30° forward and 50° rearward from the central vertical axis of wheel

The above values are passed. it has done the standard.

conclusion:

The above clearence valuea of the fender and wheel arch (SA,SB,SC,SD,SE), it's should be above 10mm gap. but, only SA,SB

passed the regulations. others, To improve the better fender design to achive the European regulatins.
