Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Need of front frnder nad dimensions:

The front fender plays an important role of covering the engine compartment from debris as wel as for pedestrial safety.

Depending upon various norms like japan EU , India etc. The distance from tyre to the outermost fender varies from 5-10 mm respectively with addition of calculation in it. Also sometime these fender are provided by rubber or plastic material to reduce the NVH rating.

The radial clearance: The radial clearance is the clearance observed between the tyre and tye fender . As per the EU norms deending upon the road conditions and average speed it should not be less then  10mm. This clearance is provided for the safety of pedestrials.

Radial clearance as shown below:

 Procedure:

1. The curve wa made using a datum plane on the wheel.

2. Then the outermost curve was projected , adding to it the reference lines where drawn patircularly at 50 and 30 degress on right and left side respectively. The above lines were constructed without having any constraints.

3.Further a 2-D point was constructed at an height of 150mm from the centreline of tyre.

4. Using the intersection command the outermost points of the tyres were crated as pr EU regulations.

5.Further the points created aere projected on the front fender to calculate the horizontal distance between the tyre and the front fender.

Section Minimum gap(mm) Observed gap (mm) Pass/Fail Remarks
SB 10 10 Pass ok
SA 10 9.944 Fail need to verify
SC 10 0.11 Fail need to improve
SD 10 2.88 Fail need to improve
SE 10 5.99 Fail need to improve

Conclusion: The styling team is requested to change the dimension / increase the  curvatre of section SA,SC,SD,SE with equal to or greater then 10mm respectively. The above chart is for styling team reference .
