Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

In this Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge we should discuss about how to find out whether the designed fender is Good as per the European Standard.

1.Wheel Arc Definition:-

Wheel Arch is the semi-circular part in the fender which is above the wheel of the vehicle. It should be designed in such a way that it must protects wheels and protect both passengers' compartment and inner face from water, mud and stones.

The wheel Arch area of the fender is usually designed as a cover or sheild over the tyre with its parameters to stop any debris or stones, dirt, sand, snow and moisture etc. are entering into the vehicle body area as well as outside the vehicle body.

  • As there are different standards in the different regions and places just like US STANDARD & EUROPEAN STANDARD & INDIAN STANDARD.

So now we have see about the EUROPEAN STANDARD:-

As I have taken the Screenshots from my Mobile, because not able to take the snapshots in NX10. So I have try to give some discriptional Analysis about whether the design comes under European Standards or NOT

Image No.1

So firstly, what is the European STD?

The Length in between the Fender Projected points the Distance L, L<10, L=10 as per the European Std. In between the angle 30 degree and the 50 degree from left to right.

Image no.2

So, I have done some steps to calculate the Length asre as follow:-

  1. Draw the Reference plane along the Axis from center of the wheel.
  2. Take a reference line offset at the length of 150 mm from x axis.
  3. Project the Angle at 30degree and 50degree as we see in the Image 1 &2 respectively.
  4. The make the 4 Sections and after bisecting the SEC-C & D, draw the SEC- E for the reference points projected at the back side of the fender.
  5. Then calculate the Length as per the European STD.

Image no.3(SEC-A)

In the Left corner in the Sec-A we have Calculated the Length of the 10mm which is as per the European STD.

Hence the Design is Good as per the different Constrained.

As I have paste only single image to understand the European STD. But at SEC-E also

L=10mm.

So as per my Conclusion the design is as per the EUROPEAN STANDARD As we see in the Image no.3

Image no.4

Image no.5

We have also calculated the distance between the wheel arc and the distance between the wheel.

SEC B-C=28.8987 MM

SEC A=56.9455 MM

  • As per my Conclusion the design is comes under the European STD. Because it has Length L=10mm.

And the Design Good to make.
