Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

AIM:

To study the Frender arch Wheel and prove the whether the car passes the European standard.

INTRODUCTION:

* wheel arch (plural wheel arches) The shaped part of the bodywork of a car or other vehicle that allows the wheel to be accessed, and in the case of front wheels, enable them to be steered.

* The wheel arch is the semicircular part positioned above the wheel of a vehicle. The most important body change was that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender.

* It should have a sufficient clearance between tyre and wheel arch. So, that it doesn’t touch the wheel arch area during suspension.

* The design of wheel arch of a fender should be such that it must shield wheel and protect both passengers’ compartment and pedestrians from projection of water, mud and stones.

* For the vehicle to has its use permit in different countries, the wheel arch of fenders must be compliant with the standards and regulation set by the respectively countries.

European standards Requriments:

In all five section the clearance L value should be greater than 10mm to satisfy the European standards requirements.

Sketch according to the European Standard

Obtaining the value of clearance “L”

Measuring at section SA Value :

The Section SA value is 9.9490mm

Measuring the section SB value:

The section SB Value is 10mm

Measuring the Section SC Value:

The Section SC Value is -0.1126mm I have used ‘– Sign’ because this measured direction is upward direction but I have required 10 mm is inward side means in this case the Wheel is above the fender face.

Measuring the Section SD value is :

The section SD value is -2.8882mm I have used ‘– Sign’ because this measured direction is upward direction but I have required 10 mm is inward side means in this case the Wheel is above the fender face.

Measuring the section SE value is:

The section SE value is -5.9018 I have used ‘– Sign’ because this measured direction is upward direction but I have required 10 mm is inward side means in this case the Wheel is above the fender face.
Clearance 'L' obtained at section SA, SB, SC, SD and SE
