Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Wheel arch :

• Wheel arch is the semi circular part of the fender positioned above the wheel of the vechile.
• The design of the wheel arch of fender should be such that it must shield wheels and protect both passengers and pedestrains from projection of water, mud, stones.
• For the vechile to has its use permit in different countries, the wheel arch of fender must be complain with the standerds and regulations set by respective countries.
• Design satisfies based on government of their particular country also depends on the speed of the vechile.

Objective :

The main objective of the wheel arch challange is to calculate the wheel arch area and prove weather the given fender of car will pass european standards or not.

European standards for wheel arch :

• The clearence L as shown in the above figure at all the sections SA-SA, SB-SB, SC-SC, SD-SD, SE-SE should be greater than 10mm.
• Wheel guard requirement : The value of 'a' shall be more than 5mm at a line 30 degrees forward and 50 degrees reaward from centre vertical axis of the wheel.

Conclution :

From the above results obtained, we can conclude that the given fender doesnot pass the European standerds for wheel arch area. Because the length should be greater than 10 or must be equal to 10.
