Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Fender : Fender is a sheet metal body of car, it is used to protect engine compartment and protect pedestrains from chips thrwoed by the tire when the car is in motion.

Fender design is mainly based on two stratagies, those are

wheel arch area &

Drip area.

These two things are involved to explain, the fender is belongs to which region and it is suitable or not.

There are 3 types of regulations in wheel arch calculation,

1. japan regulation

2. European regulation

3. U.S regulation

1. JAPAN REGULATION : In this regulation, when we get class A surface - we should check the drip area and wheel arch area. For checking wheel arch area, we should create a point ar center of wheel, project the outer profile of wheel arch area, create a points 30 and 50 degree points in between wheel and wheel arch area AND beside of vertical line.

Project the points on surface, calculate the clearance it should be in 5mm. If it is not 5mm its going to be fail.

2. EUROPEAN REGULATION : In this regulation, when we get class A surface - we should check the drip area and wheel arch area. For checking wheel arch area, we should create a point ar center of wheel, project the outer profile of wheel arch area, create a points 30 and 50 degree points in between wheel and wheel arch area AND beside of vertical line.

create a point on weel arch profile at a distance of 150 mm from the 0 line. define a line between 150mm point and 50 degree point, we got another line and project a point on there, we got 5 poits.

Project the points on surface, calculate the clearance it should be in 10mm. If it is not 10mm its going to be fail.

3. U.S. REGULATION : In this regulation, when we get class A surface - we should check the drip area and wheel arch area. For checking wheel arch area, we should create a point ar center of wheel, project the outer profile of wheel arch area, create a points 30 and 50 degree points in between wheel and wheel arch area AND beside of vertical line.

Prject the points and the clearance between the points must be passes 5mm for every 10 degree on surface.

POINTS PASSING VALUE ACTUAL VALUE PASS/FAIL
POINT 1 10 MM 10 MM PASS
POINT 2 10 MM 9.94 MM FAIL
POINT 3 10 MM 0.11 MM FAIL
POINT 4 10 MM 2.88 MM FAIL
POINT 5 10 MM 5.99 MM FAIL
