                                                        REPORT ON WHEEL ARC MEASUREMENT

Aim

The aim of this report is to calculate the wheel arc area and compare to the European Regulations Requirement to check whether it satisfy or not.

Introduction

Wheel arch is the semi - circular part of the vehicle is position on the top of the wheel. Wheel arch claddings are there to stop water and dirt ingress from getting into tight spots around the wings of the car to prevent corrosion.

They also protect any electrics or pipework from the water. They are originally made for vehicles when are supposed to take more abuse in terms of off road or water wading. It prevents scraping of paint near wheel arches also prevents water from getting inside the panel which could lead to rust.

Wheel arch is must be shielded the wheel, because it will ensure that passengers and pedestrian are not affect by the stones, mud, water from the bottom of the car.

EUROPIAN STANDARDS FOR WHEEL ARCH:

So let's create a sketch according to the Europian Standards for Wheel Arch -

Now go for the measurement to check whether it satisfy the Europian Standards for Whell Arch or not.

  • Section SA-SA

  • Section SB-SB

Section SC-SC

Section SD-SD

Section SE-SE

So now create a Table for the measurement -

SL. NO. SECTION CLEARANCE VOLUME IN (mm) RESULTS
01 SA 9.9489 FAIL
02 SB 10.000 PASS
03 SC 0.1136 FAIL
04 SD 2.9039 FAIL
05 SE 5.9751 FAIL

Conclusion

So we have discussed in this project about the wheel arch area and Europian Standards for Wheel Arch. We have calculated the clearance volume for all the sections and compare to the Europian Standards for Wheel Arch and we found that the design fails the standards. So, it is danger for pedestrian safety as well as aesthetic look of the car also bad.
