Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

FENDER WHEEL ARCH:

It is a semi circular arc aabove the wheen on the fender compartment.it acts as a protective cover from the stones ,muds and water , by creating a shield to the engine compartment as well as for the passengers. Each country has specific design criteria for the wheel arch.In India ARAI is the authority defining it.

The European regulations requires a pre-determined clearance or a minimum distance of 10mm to be maintained between the fender and respective tyre at particular points, along the tyre profile as shown below:

STEPS:

1.A horizontal and vertical lines are createdon the centre of the wheel.

2.vertical axis are drawn to the left and right of the vertical axis at an angle of 30 and 50 degrees

3.A line of 150mm is drawn perpendicular to the horizontal axis and normal from the normal point on fender

4.the point of intersection of these lines are taken with the projected curve of fender

5.which is then projected to the fender.

Different fender regulations:

1.As per the Japan regulation, the clearance between fender and the tyre must be more than 5mm.

the projected point should be between 30 and 50 degrees from the vertical axis.

As per the US regulations, the clearance between tyre and fender must be greater than 5mm. The projected points to be measured are at an angle 0° forward to 100° respectively. Thus each position is divided into 10°. Thus the projected distances are measured at around 21 different points.

LENGTH AT B

LENGTH AT C

LENGTH AT D

LENGTH AT A

the measured length on the above figures are B,C,D are not greater than or equal to 10

thus they lie below the european standards.
