Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
FENDER STANDARD & REGULATION
Why are these standards between the fender and the wheel?
The standards state that the wheel of the vehicle should be housed inside the boundaries of the fender so that the purpose of having a fender is met, which is to pervent the wheel from spraying debris and the other particles into the engine compartment and onto pedestrians.
Suppose the wheel is partially placed outside the boundaries of the fender, then the fender cannot prevent or stop particles being thrown up due to the rotation of the wheel and hence all fender must be designed so that they can house the wheel of the vehicle completely
What are the different standards?
The standards are based on that Specific region's environment & condition which is being manufactured for.
For example, there are 3 types of standards mentioned in video, which are Japanese, American & European standard.
1.Japanese Standard

2.American Standard

3.European Standard

Here, Eurpoean standard for fender design is almost suitable for other region standards, so we follow european standard
AIM
Calculate the Wheel Arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard.

Step-1
Create a Axis system with reference of the wheel outer surface

Step-2
create a sketch by using Axis system

Step-3
Create the standard reference line what mention in European standard & create points where the reference lines intersect with fender wheel arch surface

Step-4
Extract & Project the point in fender surface to measure the exact dimension between them

Step-5
As per european standard, Lenght L should be more then 10mm. measure the length L between them noted in below table:
| Slno | Distance between | Result | Dimension in mm |
| 1 | SB to fender | Pass | 10 |
| 2 | SA to fender | Pass | 9.946 |
| 3 | SC to fender | Fail | 0.114 |
| 4 | SD to fender | Fail | -2.888 |
| 5 | SE to fender | Fail | -5.994 |
SB to fender

SA to fender

SC to fender

SD to fender

SE to fender

Step-6
As per european standard, Wheel guard requirement Lenght 'a' should be more then 5 mm. measure the length a between fender to SB (30 degree) & SC ( 50 degree ) reference lines
| Slno | Distance between | Result | Dimension in mm |
| 1 | SB to fender | Pass | 44.773 |
| 2 | SC to fender | Pass | 38.36 |
SB to fender

SC to fender

Wheel guard requirement Lenght 'a' meet the Requirement which is given in European standards.
CONCLUSION
Thus, the Given fender design didnt meet the Requirement which is given in European standards & Wheel guard requirement Lenght 'a' meet the Requirement which is given in European standards. Therefore, this fender cannot pass the European standards. The design should be reverted back to the class A designer to modify the design and increase the gap there.
