Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

AIM

To calculate the wheel arch clearance from the required points and it for europen standard

WHEEL ARCH

The wheel arch is the semicircular part positioned above the wheel of a vehicle. The most important body change was that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender.

WHAT IS WHEEL ARCH CLEARANCE

It is the clearance between the wheel and fender during vehicle bump condition

EUROPEAN REQUIREMENT

As per the european regulation standards, the clearance values between the fender as well the wheel is measured in five different locations

30 degrees forward of the vertical reference line

At the vertical location

50 degrees backward of the vertical reference line

At the location of the fender which is 150 mm above the horizontal reference ine

At the location where a angle bisector line passes between the 150 mm line and the 50 degrees backward line

JAPANESE REQUIREMENT

As per the Japaneses car regulations, there should be a clearance of atleast 5 mm between the wheel's side surface and the fender's side outer surface.Clearance values are usually checked in three different positions namely

the location 30 degrees forward to the vertical line

the location 50 degrees rear to the vertical line

UNITED STATES (US) REQUIREMENT

As per the US regulation the clearance will be check at many positions -20 to 180

And the clearance value is expected to be greater than 5mm

line SAA is having 10mm clearance

line SBB is having 9.95 mm clearance

line SCC is having 0.10 mm clearance

line SDD is having 2.83 mm clearance and

line SCC is having 5.93 mm clearance

CONCLUSION

The fender does not satisify the european standard,so give an report to the styling team

to modify the fender desgin for the clearance value of 10mm
