Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Fender wheel arch :
In short terms, it protects / houses the wheel and prevent from throwing stones,mud and miscelleneous particles on the road into the car body / to another car / to the pedestarin walking aside.
To ensure the wheel arch sfaety there are three standards followed according to the road conditions of that regions.
the three regulations of fender wheel arch are as follows:
- Japan regulation
- European regulation
- US regulation
These regulations are to ensure the clearance gap between the fender hub and the tyre/wheel top profile.
Japan Regulation:
- Check the clearnce value L at three section points SA,SB,SC and make the clearance chart.
- Requirement: Check whether the clearance value greater than 5mm at the required sections, 30`degree`forward , 50`degree`rearward from the centre of the vertical axis of the wheel centre.
European Regulation :
- Check the clearance value L at five sections SA,SB,SC,SD,SE as per the regulation and make the clearance chart.
- Requirement: Check whether the clearance gap should greater than 10mm in these five sections , 30 degree forward and 50 degree rearward from the centre vertical axis of the wheel centre, and intersection point 150 mm from the centre horizontal axis of the wheel centre.
US Regulations :
- Check the clearance value L at thr required sections as per the standard and make the clearance chart.
- Requirement : Check whether the clearance value should be greater than 5mm at all sections from -100 degree to 100 degree along the centre axis of the wheel centre.
Calculation and Report
Now we are going to check whether the given model satisfy the European regulations and make the clearance chart.
After marking the points at required sections as per the standards with required dimensions, now we are going to check the clearance gap.
Now we are going to measure the clearance gap , the measrement done at sections SA, SB, SC, SD, SE are as follows,
