Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Aim:
This challeng shows that evaluate the given fender wheel arch design to verify if the wheel arch of the fender reach the European standards.
Fender:
Fender is a component of an automobile body that frames or look like as wheel wall, its very important lprimary purpose is to prevent sand, rocks and other foreign materials which are on the surface being throw away from rotating tire while vehicle is going. And it is cover the inside child component of the car and its give good austhetic to the car.
Fender Wheel Arch:
Types of the fender:
There are two types of the fender. they are:
- Full Bumper.
- Half Bumper.
Full Bumper of the fender:
The full bumper is mostly cover the wheel part as shown in the below.
And it is previous method or old one. It is more expensive and more wieght compare to Half bumper

HALF BUMPER:
Half Bumper helps reduce the weight of the fender and also it reduce the the manufacturing cost. at the same time it proves the safety of pedestrian moving motion as shown in the figure.

Fender design considerations:
- Drip Area.
- Wheel Arch.
- Baffle and ORVM mount area.
- Frontal crash regulation and requirements.
For more detail see the below image.

Standards for Designing Front Fender:
European standard for wheel arch: According to European standard clearance length for the wheel arch will be 10mm. SA, SB, SC, SD, SE are the point on the wheel from where it is projected to the wheel arch to measure the distance.
Sketch for Measurement:
Here i measured the distance b/w the wheel outer most edge to fender wheel arch in various points by using sketch command , the distance will be 10mm or >10 mm it is acceptable , incase it will be <10mm it is not acceptable.
In this case we have refer the to change the Class A of fender.

Measuring the distance from the wheel arch to the wheel tyre:
Next, we will note down clearance values.
1. Clearance for SA = 9.9490mm.
It is not acceptable. it is <10mm.

2. Clearance for SB = 10 mm. .

3. Clearance for SC = 0.1139mm.

4. Clearance for SD = 2.8875mm.

5. Clearance for SE = 5.9973mm.

Observation tabular form mentioned below:
| Position | Required Clearance Value (mm) | Observed Clearance Value (mm) | The requirement Test |
| SA | 10 | 9.9490 | Failed |
| SB | 10 | 10 | Passed |
| SC | 10 | 0.1139 | Failed |
| SD | 10 | 2.8875 | Failed |
| SE | 10 | 5.9973 | Failed |
Final conclusion :
I will observed above calculation of the given fender wheel arch design will not pass the European standard in the position SA, SB, SC, SD and SE has a clearance less than 10mm which is the minimum requirement for European standards.
It is not reach the European standards or requirement so i will to suggest change or modify the Class A surface.
